Has anyone else had there dog confused with a coyote or wolf. Usually if run with Dutch through the valley and he get up ahead of me and someone runs into him they call coyote or wolf. To which I respond they don't usually have jewellery. They're usually glad to find that he'sfriendly, but I'm hoping one of tese days the won't hurt him.

All of the time !!!!! Wolf, Coyote, Dingo. I was hiking one day and Thalie turned the corner before me, I heard a loud shrill, a young girl was coming the opposite direction and saw Thalie.

Another time, Thalie took a walk to my fathers neighbors and went up on their deck to see what was cooking on the grill, the boys (20's) were plastered against the house thinking it was a coyote, then thier dad, who knew Thalie came out and started laughing.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

I've actually had ''serious'' [ maybe seriously stupid ?] adults ask if TD was a hyena!

maybe for safety 's sake put a big, bright orange bandana on him to accentuate the jewelry. we laugh about this, but no telling in the woods what someone might do out of stupid fear. make it very clear to ward off stupidity and any regrets.

Tell us about yourself: Howdy,
We are a family of rescues, (yeah, me included), in Southern California. My wife and I currently have two dogs, a Golden Retriever/ GSD mix by the name of Morgan, and our DS mix(?), Dinga Roo. We had never even heard of a Dutch Shepherd before until we were stalked by this nice lady in the pet store who asked us if Roo was a DS. Dang if that lady wasn't on to something. I just found this site, so here we are....

Dingo I don't get - because who has ever seen a brindle dingo? I've gotten African Wild Dog a lot - which I thoroughly enjoy.

got that today and many times before -- the African wild dog or African something. better than hyena if they are serious, which these people were.

Tell us about yourself: Hi there.
I WILL be a new Dutch Shepherd owner on July 20th!!! Puppies are on the ground and a huge litter at 14! Very excited. I chose the Dutch because I like high drive dogs and my husband likes shepherds. We both have had GSDs in our past. I also am interested in search and rescue training. I live in the mountains of California and have two older Australian Shepherds. I do know that I have a job managing this pack. My husband is on board with it all. No kids. Both of us have flexible jobs. We are active folk but aging! ;-))
Still we mountain bike, hike, cross-country ski and my husband runs. I walk in the woods with the dogs 3 times a day and we are lucky to have US Forest right out the door. So that is it.

hahahaha total african wild dog!!!!! Spitten image.

I like the hyena. Hope that happens to me. I can't wait to say, "A hyena mix".

BTW, hyenas are more closely related to cats then dogs.

Tell us about yourself: I live in North Monterey County, CA with my husband, three step kids, one gorgeous and wonderful Dutch Shepherd and a whole bunch of livestock type animals. The humans are into sustainable farming, the dog is into chasing deer and digging up gophers. My day job is an Operations Supervisor at Santa Cruz Regional 911. One of these days, I'm going to get another DS.

We get coyote a lot. I think it's the way she moves with her head and tail low, ears forward. It looks very feral.

Healthy, happy, energetic, and super social.

This is so funny! Duke gets all of these, hyena, African wild dog, dingo, coyote. The list really goes on, and it's like I never even knew what any of those looked like, but everybody who sees duke does!

I've had some people ask if Riddick is a Wolf Hybrid. His pictures in his Pedigree Database profile are from when he was about two years old. He's now six, filled out more, and looks even more "wolf like" then he did then. He is however such a friendly and social dog. Loves playing with other dogs and meeting new people.

There's a video about an actual Wolf named Romeo that lived up in Juneau, Alaska and the wolf loved to play with people's pet dogs brought out to some local lake. The wolf would run around with the dogs like he was one of them. I think the wolf and Riddick have the same mannerisms along with the same goofball personality.
