Can anyone recommend a good age at which to have the dog spayed? Why?
I am asking because I was planning to get my dog spayed at 5 months old, but I read an article on a breeders website about how there are health risks to early spay- the article recommended waiting until ~18 months, which I was under the impression is way too long to wait.
Any opinions?

I can understand that it is healthier. What's the best way to deal with her flow? Is she an indoor dog? Do you have neutered males? Mine are neutered. A pair of tighty whiteys with a maxipad in them and turn them backwards with the tail pulled through the pee hole lol Yoda isn't fixed but I keep them separate... my other males are fixed so no worries... in the crate she keeps herself clean but when she's out she gets the batman undies! Lol

We have extensive experience with sled dogs, shepherd mixes, a wolf hybrid, and our current dog a 95# long haired Shiloh Shepherd. We added Endeavor in April 2016. She was not working out in HRD. I train for game recovery and general utility.
