Marj, how is the line connected to your bike? Got a photo? Is the line made of nylon? I dont think I have seen this 'apparatus' used before. I did the AD (12 mile test for DVG) way back with my GSD but we just used a leather leash and she wasnt pulling me. My husband has talked about building me a land sled (proper name?) to exercise our dogs.

They use this to train Huskys too, the line is PE (poly Ethyleen I guess??) with a bungee in the middle, this prevents the dog from getting a hard schock when starting to pull. The thing in front of the bike is this:
http://www.hondenspul.nl/N_frame.html?h ... t_195.html

That makes sure the line doesn't get tangled in the wheel. I have the line connected on my bike by a simple strong climbing-rope, that holds a panic-hook (is that English?) It snap's open with just one pull in case of emergency/cats-on-the-road :dsshock:
It's a lot of fun, and two hands on the wheel, which is pretty good :D

Margolein,

How much does Ivil weigh? What is the most weight he pulls? (Who enjoys it more, you or him, looks hard to say.) Does Dingo pull as well?
Though I can only hope to become the person who my animals believe I am, the things that they have taught me have made me a better human being. ~~~Sharon~~~

Thats so funny! Thalie goes with me when I go snow shoeing during the winter and mountain biking during the non snow months, I never thought of having her pull me. Ill have to rethink this !

Dingo is not pulling, it's not his thing :)

I ride the bike a lot with the dogs and I never got Ivil's pulling controlled... So one day I decided she could run as fast as she wanted and I would just paddle along, she loved it! Then someone told me about this bikjöring, I bought the gear and off we went!
Ivil is not pulling all my weight, the sport is, to go cross country (which we didn't do yet, if ever...) with the person paddeling, the dog pulling. The point is not to be dragged around the neigbourhood by your dog  but to excersise, so we both get tired ;) Ivil weighs 26 KG, I'm about 63 KG. Offcourse you need to use common sense in how to work with your dog, Ivil is used to run about 8-14 KM at a time without pulling, so we started with a 2 KM pulling ride. Now we are up to 6 KM, where the last KM she has to "relax" and walk besides me to cool down. Ow, and you cannot do this when it's over 18 celcius ;)

Tell us about yourself: I have had a DS for almost a year. Gwen and I are considering participating in PSA and or possible Ring Sport. I also have a Great Dane. I have grown up around working GSDs and my last GSD was a working K9 officer. I am all about dogs and animals in general and want to learn as much as I can about training.

I started biking with Gwen this summer.... she was driving me crazy and since I DON'T run I decided to try teaching her to run with the bike... It worked out really good with the exception of when it was too windy... She still had too much puppy in her and she started chasing all the leaves... :ds:
