I thought the Dutch appreciated any reason to drink? Or is that just a German thing?vneerland wrote: For me, there is NO way I would let my DUTCH dogs pose in a GERMAN zauf-fest.

- Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year! - Location: Corinth, New York

Johan's mom gave him a bottle of "doggie-beer" for his birthday... "kwispel" is Dutch for tail-wagging

I spotted right away that that's not Grolsh Eva. Wrong bottle.....
And so we got our first submission. And despite my teasing about the subject, I would hope that Schlussdibusti/Eva would submit something. You may be our only true Octoberfest professional? Plenty of experience?

Do people need a reason? I didn't know that? (Germany is believed to be more of a drinking nation than Holland, but I am not sure who collects the data on it)Christie M wrote:I thought the Dutch appreciated any reason to drink? Or is that just a German thing?

Just once as a tourist (I am from the North, close to the Dutch border) and the memories are a bit scetchy I remember I had to stand in a long line to go to the bathroom and when it became urgent, I just made a mad dash into the men's bathroomvneerland wrote:And so we got our first submission. Historically, folks from the South (Bavarians) and folks beyond the Isar river (Prussians) don't care much for each other. The beer is different, the food is different, etc. I found that Americans identify Bavaria (Lederhosen, Dirndl, etc) with Germany. Has probably to do with American military bases are in the South of Germany. Where I grew up we had lots of British military stationed. We had nice beer, not that light bubbly Bavarian stuff that makes you burp a lot. Decent Bratwurst, not those white sausages you suckle out You get my drift...... Marco will not pose in Lederhosen or such, Sorry

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences. - Location: Victoria BC

No posing in lederhosen? That would've been something to see!!

Well dang Eva. I cannot say that I don't agree (see previous posts) but I am pleasantly surprised that you do not do Octoberfest either. And while I suspect that Marco would not mind posing (if only for a few seconds) with bratwurst, I feel confident that he is not a fan of sauerkraut?

Again a North/South deal. I remember my granny preparing sauerkraut with pork ribs. Frying the sauerkraut with onions together with the ribs. Needless to say the sauerkraut was not 'sauer' as you get it in the South and in German restaurants around here in SE Florida. Afterwards a 'Bomerlunder' or 'Underberg' to break down the grease and make the tummy feel good, no need for Tums or Beptovneerland wrote: I feel confident that he is not a fan of sauerkraut?

Is Marco a German Shepherd?
@ Marjolein. Don't wine/whine. You beat the rest of us all the time. I tried implementing the "No 'met streepjes' " rule, but they refused to accept that motion.
