http://www.workingdutchshepherd.org/breed-history/

This describes the difference much better than that and gives a true history of the breed other than location difference and coat... you'll see many malinois came from the dutch shepherd once they eliminated any color other than brindle and you'll see the gsd and malinois both were used to bring the breed back from extinction to give us the dogs we have today

Thank you Steve - I think I once shared that history from its original source (sevenpineskennel.com), but the original link is broken.

Thank you for sharing the new link.

Apologies for bringing up an old thread again if that is not allowed, but I found this very interesting. Introducing the malinois for SH, Tervuren for LH, and Laekenois for RH would suggest that the three sub-types of DS would potentially have different temperaments, correct? From what I have read, Tervurens tend to be “friendlier” than a Malinois would. I’m not familiar with the Laekenois.

The difference is after those mixed were done the dogs have been bred back to dutch shepherds and so on and so forth to the point of washing out the temperament difference .. I can't speak of the rough coat since I've only met a few
