How much food?
I have what might be a dutch shepherd mix (still waiting on confirmation), and I currently give him 4 cups of food a day. He was severely underweight when I got him. He's currently at 6 mo old. Is this too much food?

Re: How much food?
that may be too much for a little guy. Even though he is under weight, you dont want to just fill him up. My girls as adults dont get 4 cups a day, we are not in any heavy work though, well.........Sadie likes to think she is. Talk to your vet too and see what they say.
What are you feeding him? Brand etc.

Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy Blend, chicken and rice style
The side of the bag says anywhere from 3 to 4 1/4cups a day for him, but I'm afraid he's going to get fat, even with daily exercise

Re: How much food?
I would say you are over-feeding him. How much does he weigh currently and what does your vet think he should weigh at this time?

He was being fed 3 times a day, 4/3 of a cup each time. Now he is getting 1 cup per meal

he wont fatten up quick, you dont want that anyway. Back it down and he will grow and catch up. It took Sadie for ever to put weight on, She is very lean anyway.
