I know there's grades of antlers but don't know the breakdown. I also *think* that I was once told that darker colored antlers are newer and paler color antlers older... Can't remember which is supposed to be harder/softer...
There's also a difference in deer, elk, and moose antlers. I think in terms of hardness it goes deer < elk < moose. I usually stay away from "band name" antlers because they are lesser quality in my opinion. I buy from etsy or Elkusa.com
