Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. He died july17,2012. i am dying without him. www.youtube.com/tracesobaka www.dogster.com/dogs/637612

HIVES from wasp stings

Post by johninny »

Sakima, whose life has been anything but easy, was stung by a swarm of micro-wasps that by nature are super-aggressive, getting hundreds of stings on his head, all around his neck, and his back. as if that was not bad enough, he had an allergic reaction to all of this and developed a severe case of hives, which then got infected in their worst clusters. last Saturday he was shaved over much of this area [ oh, the poor thing !!], was on Benadryl for the week, and continuing on baytril antibiotic for a second week now starting. also is starting 2x per day on ''micro pearls advantage dermal-sooth spray'' [ main point is 1% pramoxine hydrochloride ].

is there anything else I should be doing for him? any other advice on this - OR THE WASPS ! ? [ they seem quite prevalent as never before and stung me this year for the first time ever - luckily only once.]

poor guy! :(
I don't have any experience treating wasp stings (thank goodness!). I do set up wasp traps because wasps are awful around my house. You can buy a trap at your local Lowe's or Home Depot, or you can make one. Just be sure you set the traps a good distance from the house and main yard area to attract them away from where you spend your time.

ok, thanks, tomorrow we will have a socialization outing in search of wasp traps! even if 10% helpful, it would be great. do you have a sense of how effective they are? do I need to OVER DO IT with the traps?

Topically - organic coconut oil is really, really soothing. Also, if he is not on any steroids (and that woudl help too), an NSAID like Metacam, Rimadyl or something would help a ton with his comfort level.

They were very effective for me. Depending on how big your yard is, you could put 2-3 out at the farthest corners.

I agree. Organic coconut oil is good stuff with natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and antibiotic properties.
