has anyone ever run into something fainting goat-like with dogs?
there's been a handful of times over the years where Shylah has scared me and I wondered if she was having small seizures
but it's ALWAYS when she's eating, I've NEVER seen her have an 'episode' at any other time
it's like she gets too excited about food and you can see her get wobbly and like her legs stiffen on her, just now she stumbled over to where our phone is and flopped over (she was conscious when I walked over, a few seconds after at most) , I just petted her and gave her a minute and boom, she's back up and around like nothing ever happened

That doesn't sound good. My next door neighbor's dog had epileptic seizures. Didn't show up until the dog was about 3 years old. Similar symptoms, but I don't think she ever went unconscious.

I hope it's not that serious. Did you talk to your vet about it?

def get to a vet, I would find a vet that specializes in neurology, or some specialist. even if your vet is awesome, they are not specialists. When Sadie was diagnosed with HD, as much as I love my vet, I had a specialist take xrays.

Have her checked out head to toe. Could be a pinched nerve, could be something else. What was she doing before this happened? Same thing every time, or just random?

Sadie had a wierd thing ( well Sadie is wierd) But she was laying in her usuall upside down position on the couch, and when she got up, she could not move, she went down on her front legs and had a dazed look on her ( different from her normal dazed look) then her back end shook, it only lasted about 10 second.
It has not happened since.

it was dinner time, so she was acting like a fool because she's food crazy...but it doesn't seem to be exercise/activity related cus she can run circles around the backyard and play-fight with Shota all day and nothing

I've seen her stumble a little before, but it's always been questionable, like maybe she stepped wrong, or tried to scratch while eating and didn't brace properly... this is the second time I've seen her actually stiffen and fall, over all I would say I've seen it MAYBE a half dozen times in the past couple years... it's always when she's eating, and she's always perfectly fine afterwards

do you remember what was going on at feeding time? Just trying to find a trigger. What is the stumble like? front legs?

Did a quick search, yeah yeah, I know about searching on the internet, we are all dying LOL. But i found some things about seizures and feeding time.

Seizures often occur at times of changing brain activity, such as during excitement or feeding, or as the dog is falling asleep or waking up. Affected dogs can appear completely normal between seizures.

Going to long between meals causing low blood sugar can cause seizures.

it was feeding time as normal around here, she sees the bowls and gets excited

I didn't see it in time to see if one half started before the other, I'm watching her like a hawk now... it looks like her legs stiffen/she can't control them and she stumbles and then (this time) fell over, just like a fainting goat, she laid there maybe a minute at most and then got up and was fine

I wondered about the excitement part, but I would think it would happen when she's outside running around like an idiot too, and I've only ever seen it during feeding

unfortunately I have to wait at least a week before I can take her to the vet, I'm gonna assume they're going to want to do blood tests and such and I don't have enough of a $$ cushion right now, need another paycheck

I hear ya. From what I found, its different while playing, I think the change in the brain waves may be more gradual from play. Mayby feeding time, is more of quiet, to FOOD! Its sort of like that at my house but they know when feeding time is so they get ready . Sadies brain waves have always been wonky and Thalie is so level headed.

went to the vet today (who was super excited to see a dutch)
she said overall Shylah is in great shape and was super impressed with her weight loss (down 10lbs!)

they're going to run blood tests just to rule anything else out, but from what I told her she said really the only thing she could think of is that Shylah is just eating too fast and making herself lightheaded (like an idiot)

her heart and everything sounded great, and if it was a heart condition she wouldn't be able to run and exercise the way she does... and she said it doesn't sound like seizures because it's not random (it's only when she's eating) and she's not out of it afterwards, she's perfectly fine and cognizant and even if it was, she said it wouldn't be worth treating for as uncommon as an occurrence it is, she said the meds are kinda harsh

so basically, she's getting a chain in her bowl and she's gonna eat slower lol
