Combo trial

Post by Christie M »

I had the pleasure this weekend to attend a combo trial in the Chicago area. Schutzhund was offered on Friday with everything from BHs to 3s. PSA was offered on Saturday with lots of entry level titles earned. Sunday was a local tradition and was more Personal Protection style.

It seems like everyone had a really good time. Many people gained new respect for the intricacies of different venues. I think the biggest revelation that I came to is that there are a TON of people who want to do "Stuff" with their dog. Most don't care if they compete at the Nationals of any particular sport, they are just happy to keep working and trying new things. I know many people are cross training now, but I was very surprised how many people were there just to hang out with their dog and compete.

One corso got her BH on Friday, PDC-SD and PDC on Saturday and took second in the PP contest on Sunday. That handler is on CLOUD nine!

Tell us about yourself: Had a GSD, am getting a DS puppy in a few weeks. Compete in agility, obedience, and cross train in tons of stuff. Found out about this site from the DS Rescue yahoo list.

Hey there,

There were:
10 BH (many of whom where checking out Schutzhund for the first time)
1 Sch A
1 Sch 1
1 Sch 2
3 Sch 3

I'm not sure how that compares to other trials.

That seems like a high number of BHs. Very cool! The other numbers are similar to a club trial. The North Central Regional was going on in WI that same weekend so that is a great turn out. Sounds like a fun event!

Sounds good! I train at a club that does just that, some want to go and compete, others just train because they want to work with their dog for the fun of it.

Could anyone tell me, I'm trying to figure out what PSA stands for?

Protection sports America. Some crossbreed between a lot of known disciplines, all stirred up into something new.
