Tell us about yourself: I live in Metro-West Boston with my husband and our rescued Dutch Shepherd, Minnie. She loves anything involving activity. Our first rescued DS, Kaya, loved to tug. Our second rescued DS (who actually turned out to be a GSDx), Marley, loved to nap. I volunteer for the North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue and am a member of the NADSR BOD.

North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue is seeking $2000 in donations to help us cover veterinary expenses for two adults and two puppies pulled from the same shelter.

In February of 2016, North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue was contacted about a male Dutch Shepherd, Zed, for whom time was running out at the shelter. K9 handlers were able to spend a little bit of time with him and determined that he'd had some training and would need an experienced owner. Because of his breed and the shelter's policies, he was deemed unadoptable and available to rescue only.

Much to our surprise, when we contacted the shelter regarding Zed, we were told he had fathered a litter and that mom and her puppies, whelped only 4 days prior, were at the shelter as well! All dogs had been confiscated during a drug bust. Mom, Jenny, was described as young and sweet. Sadly 2 of her 6 puppies did not make it.

It was a dire situation for these 2 adults (and their 4 puppies!) as they'd been at the shelter for over a month and were designated as "not adoptable per this shelter's protocol." Thanks to the Animal Control Officer, who had a soft spot for them, and to Community Law Enforcement, who was pulling for them to be saved, NADSR was contacted and was able to help...euthanasia was avoided!

All 6 dogs were placed into the same foster home and Jenny and her pups quickly settled in to their comfortable whelping pen. Sadly, two of her pups failed to thrive despite five days of bottle feeding every three hours. The remaining two puppies, now resembling furry butterballs, continue to do well and are growing like weeds. Mom, Jenny, is doing well, gaining weight, and will be spayed. Zed is also doing well, will be neutered, and will undergo a tooth extraction to remove a fractured-to-the-pulp canine. We are confident that, with the care we are able to provide them, all will be ready for placement in loving, permanent homes.

We are seeking $2000 in donations to help us cover these expenses and the routine vetting of these two adults and two puppies. These six dogs are among the 20 dogs we have been able to rescue so far this year. There are many months left yet in 2016 and your generosity will help us continue to help Dutch Shepherd Dogs in need. North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible and receipts can be provided. Thank you for your support!
