Is my Mishka a Dutch Shepherd?

Post by Westtexasoverland »

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and have gotten into Dutch Shepherds for some time now. I was going through the pictures of dogs that can be rescued here at my local animal shelter, and happened to run into this beautiful little female puppy. I am 85% sure she is a Dutch Shepherd..but would love to hear from more experienced dog owners.

4 months old
Teething..ears flop a bit ..but she can stand them up
Very active
Loves to climb stuff 😁 ( part monkey)
High drive
She gets defensive if other dogs come near me lol
Gets along with my Doberman and Sheprador
Very vocal
Beautiful brindle coat
Has that black face mask
Tiny bit of white on the foot and chest.. which I've actually seen on some Dutch Shepherds..
Fast learner
Extremely smart and loving

I would say there's good chance there's Dutch Shepherd in Mishka.

I also live in a military area..so I do believe it ..a lot of the soldiers import dogs..and come in with very unique dogs, but I'm still not 100% sure..

DNA test would help with assurance. Wisdom Panel has them in the test.

Otherwise gorgeous dog.

So for that I keep reading and hearing people say that for Dutch Shepherds it's not accurate...what's your take on that?

Check out the link at the top of this page called what's the buzz on DNA tests. It has the whole conversation here on the forum.

Too hard to say from pictures alone but i would say it’s possible. Looks like a dutchie but could also be some sort of shepherd mixed with boxer/or pit bull or something.

So you think more like a shepherd boxer mix? It makes sense..

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe, because the white on the chest?

Westtexasoverland, have you looked at the FCI Standard?

It's kind of a good place to start, it's not 100% either, and I can say this because my Leela fits the breed standard for a Malinois, but the DNA test says otherwise.

I just read the FCI standard and she actually meets a whole bunch of those. She does look kinda funny because she ate a lot of Turkey and Ham..lmao so she gained some weight..

Yea idk I mean she looks pretty DS-Ish to me really. Just definitely seems like it’s got a little somethin else in with it but who knows. And reason I mentioned boxer is cause you quite often see brindle boxer mixes with white on paws and chest. DS commonly have white on chest but not so much on paws
