Black Hole

Post by centrop67 »

Radar Love just played on my Spotify feed and I'm bawling my eyes out.

I need something to fill this empty space in my heart.

Soon.

I'm so sorry. I'm sure not being able to get Mario hasn't helped.

Has there been in progress in the dog search?

How is Leela dealing with the separation?

Just get a puppy from a reputable breeder and be done with it.

My next dog will be a rescue - there won't be much debate from me on that.

I have one rescue, a documented Mal. However there aren't that many Dutchies out there in rescues. I think I see maybe eight to ten a year get offered up for adoption through various rescues. Plenty of Mal's in rescues- far more.

This place is rescuing Malinois from the dog meat trade in Asia. They then get the dogs, rehabilitate them at a facility while waiting to go the US. They have a facebook page also.

Website.

I appreciated the info on the Malinois Rescue League. I reached out and am now on the transport list. I'm really excited.

.http://www.madrescueinc.org/ seems to have some great dogs. Jester and Kona's stories are so sad.

My wife and I have decided to move on without adopting Mario.

We are still looking, and there's a young Malinois at the Miami Dade shelter that looks promising.

Shelter was closed today, but I hope we get a chance to meet her this week.

Not a DS, but we will still be DS adjacent. I think.

MDAS actually has 3 dogs we may be interested in.

This is Lucy, an 8 month old Mal

This is Bella, a 1 yr old Mal.

And this is Baby, an 8 year old GSD

They're all females, and I was hoping to not be the only male in my house. But, that won't sway our decision.

Are you still interested in a DS?

I'm coming down to FL soon, and we arent taking Bramble. The local rescue had a few DS. Depending on personality, I would be willing to transport.

Thank you. That is a very generous offer. I do prefer to find something local, however, as we need to ensure that Leela will get along with the next dog we bring to our home. It would not be good if we transported a dog that then had to find a new home.

Without being able to test the dogs properly due to the types of people who work in rescues not understanding that not all dogs are pets- then no way. At least perhaps with a Mal specific rescue, they might understand this and allow for some nervousness testing. Also, a truly dominant dog isn't going to just hang out with some unknown dog even in neutral territory if that other dog gets to close. The younger the dog, the better the chances of them eventually getting along even if they are aggressive toward one another initially.

The rescue is a Malinois rescue, that also ends up with DS. Unfortunately, given the economic situation there are a lot of working breed dogs ending up at rescues.

Unfortunately, after getting back from out of town all three dogs are off the MDAS list. I hope they got as good a home as I would have provided or better. The shelter is no kill, so I am not going to assume the worst.

Back to looking. There's an interesting Mal in Jupiter about 50 miles away, but I'm starting to think that waiting for a DS is in my best interest.

This is a tough situation. I don't need another dog. I want one. Mario was an emotional roller coaster, and that is the last thing I could ever wish on anyone including myself.

Given the issues I went through with Radar, it's a wonder I don't just walk away. He was a stubborn and strong willed son of a bitch. But, when he was at his best, he was amazing. I'm still having difficulty without him.

When you experience the best, it's hard to settle for anything less. I can't find myself compromising on this.

For all the years I had him there always seemed to be another that needed rescue close by. I never thought I would be on an island waiting for the next one.

I wish I lived in Houston or Atlanta, because the breeders there are sucking up the place. Rescue Dutch Shepherds are everywhere.

Sorry for my little rant, but the black hole that started this thread is eating at my soul.
