Mustang met the trainer this week. She's probably overqualified for someone like me. She's a police, military, and a US SAR trainer.

But, I'm determined to give him the best opportunity to be the best he can.

No protection work planned due to his hip issue, so scent work is on the table. Have to get thru basic OB first.

Started marker charging this week. He's doing well.

Next week we start real sessions.

He is something of a goofball, but that's par for the course for the breed I guess.

He literally fell asleep like this.

I am playing around with the idea of chronicling Mustang's life via a blog.

I am building the website from scratch to practice the technology, but I am not sure I won't just use a 3rd party blog platform in the end.

Tell us about yourself: I am: a father of 2 boys, a carpenter, hunter, runner. We have extensive experience with sled dogs, shepherd mixes, a wolf hybrid, and our current dog a 95# long haired Shiloh Shepherd. We added Endeavor in April 2016. She was not working out in HRD. I train for game recovery and general utility.

Seems interested in this video, but not quite as crazy for the tug as some dogs. Certainly interested and can be worked with and used as reward in the future!

Yeah. It's nothing like Radar's tug intensity, but it's better than no tug.

We're working on training and making sure he has gone through all the phases of acclimation to his new home before considering any work on his hip. We will evaluate at the end of at least 3-months here as long as he shows no issues with the hip.

He shows absolutely no signs of distress - walking, running, playing and jumping. So, we will delay the trauma of surgery as long as possible.
