Well, I guess I am not terribly surprised about the GSD/Staffy mix but the Boston Terrier seems REALLY out of left field.

I'd say it's mostly shepherd. Grace has above average drive, say 6/10, and does a lot of the same behaviors that I see in my trainer's Malinois (just less intense version of them, lol). When you look at her she locks eye contact back just like every working shepherd I've ever encountered. You can see the gears turning in her head. I am not familiar enough with AmStaffs to know what is considered "breed consistent behavior" and what isn't. That said, if the stereotype about them is to be believed, maybe that's part of the source of Grace's reactivity on leash. It's more likely that her first family just didn't do a very good job with her puppyhood but hey, who knows.

Uuuhhhh... If the standard is anything like the one I know, it's a completely disjointed gait, wildly undershot lower jaw, coprophagia, and the overwhelming tendency to sit motionless staring at walls.

Tell us about yourself: New to Dutch Shepherd life. Adopted Mercy from a rescue on May 8th, 2020. She was born on January 22, 2020. Labeled by rescue as a Dutch Shepherd mix. The more we get to know her, and learn about DS, the more we see this is most definitely true!

Re: DNA Test

Post by Miss Mercy »

So, just got results back on our little rescued DS mix by Wisdom Panel. Shows her to be 50% Malinois, 25% asian/guard/herding groups, 12.5% lab, and 12.5% Pointing Griffon. We knew she would be a mix of things, but to not see DS in there at all was a bit surprising! Learning that the Pointing Griffon is a Dutch breed though, and wondering if that DNA from far enough back in her history could somehow relate to other Dutch breeds...like the Dutch Shepherd? Now I am curious to try another test brand...

FINALLY....Got the DNA results and my DS(?) maybe is not in any way a DS. It's strange, though, that they are indicating 28% put bull and 15% Cattle Dog. Neither of which explains her personality.

I appreciate all the help, though. I've learned a great deal :)
