Hi Steve,
Can you give us a little breakdown of what's going on?
Are you following a track that you walked or someone else? If you walked it, how do you transition that into tracking someone else later?
I notice that you give longer lead as the tracking progresses. Is that on purpose?
Thanks.

Re: Nice foggy tracking day today
Yeah this is IPO tracking... I laid the track... honestly it really doesn't matter who lays the track.. in IPO 1 you lay your own track in ipo 2 and 3 its laid by someone else.. but the dog is scenting the disturbance in the grass not really my scent... the foot steps smell different than the grass with out the disturbance.. the leash length in an IPO trial you are 33 ft behind the dog.. I started this track off in some rough hard conditions so I stayed close to be able to judge of he needs a correction or if hes having trouble in the tough section then as he shows me hes following well I let him go out farther.. everything on the track is important really other than who laid it... when you are tracking (I keep a log) you have to adjust the length of leash, the amount of food on the track, the way the track is laid and so on... my tracks are aged around an hour before we run them... but the way the track is laid and the distance of leash all depends on the tracking conditions... is it windy and is the wind blowing at us, against us or across us... is it a dry track or is the ground damp... what's the grass like? My tracking fields are relatively hard because of the soil, the terrain changes so much and there's ants everywhere... f**k ants! Lolcentrop67 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 30, 2018 11:38 am Hi Steve,

Ewwwwww ants. Do they get the food before Yoda does? Hate ants. Spiders are my most hated though.
This IPO tracking stuff sounds complicated. I thought it was much simpler however, now I know why it still seems so interesting. Would you ever make us a demo video of how you lay a track. Pretty please?????

Re: Nice foggy tracking day today
When I used to use hot dog pieces the ants would be all over them! Yoda would still eat it he didnt care lol every now and then he'd sneeze one out... but i use kibble on the track now and there really isn't a lot of kibble on the track maybe a piece every 20 paces or so... I lay my tracks very different in the beginning of teaching track vs where Yoda is now (ready for trial)Joxgirl wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 5:15 am Ewwwwww ants. Do they get the food before Yoda does? It's very complicated honestly.. every track is laid different depending on how he did his last track ( length, amount of food and where, wind, article placement where and how the turns are laid)Joxgirl wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 5:15 am Ewwwwww ants. Sounds like you have to put a lot of time into that sport. Lucky Yoda.
