Long weekend! New Champion!

Post by CaroleBoaz »

I drove 5 hours to attend 2 days/4 shows of UKC conformation in Kalamazoo and finally had competition! Yay!

I was entered in all 4 shows and had 2 Best Male, and 1 Best of Breed. The same dogs were there all weekend, and on Sunday a Longcoat female puppy joined us and won a best female, once she settled down and got more comfortable.

Anyway, Boaz is now a Champion. And I think Luna, and Mr Right Now, also earned their Champion title.

I'll be going to the UKC Premier nrxt summer, but now to more important things, Obedience and Agility!

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

Well, to me, 5 hours is pretty far away. Then there's the other two dogs to consider. Plus, my guy really gets bored with being on a leash an entire weekend.

For me, chasing after 5 champion wins is going to be a lot of time, and gas and hotel money.

So, no. It's not worth it.

For me a 5 hour drive for a show would be a short one! Always showed with friends, so we shared gas, hotel, and lots of times smuggled crock pots into the rooms. (So crowded at one show my daughter slept in the bathtub.) Use to have soooo much fun. Didn't matter if we pointed the dogs or not---just fun to go. (And of course party. :pint: ) Oh to be young again!
