A LITTLE BRINDLED HANNIBAL LECHTER!! Now, really, how much trouble could a darling little pug be? I thought all dogs under a standard 65 pounds were sugar and spice and everything nice. (What is that for, though?)

I don't know how I managed to assign Marjolein's quote to another's post...except that we were posting at the same time, but that doesn't make sense, either.

Tell us about yourself: I was introduced to the Dutch Shepherd breed during my time as an Army veterinary technician working with Military Working Dogs. I fell in love with the breed and by pure chance happened to meet a DS in a local rescue who was a police K9 washout and was up for adoption. We adopted Zodiac right away and she has been an important part of our family ever since. We currently compete in Rally-Obedience and participate in Agility.

I used to trim nails almost daily when I worked in the vet clinic and even with all that experience I still hated doing it, I'd rather have a full afternoon of dogs with anal gland issues than one wiggly dog who needs a nail trim. It's different with Zodiac though, she just lays there and lets me trim her nails with no problem, but I still prefer trimming the cat and ferrets' nails rather than hers because the other animals have clear nails.

Glad I'm not the only one about the nails. I used to have a vet tech friend come the house to do bird nails.

Oh, yeah...one more thing: defrosting in the microwave. Again...I am compelled to state that it was a joke. People have actually placed animals in the microwave to melt ice off their feet or to "warm" them up. Idiots, but nonetheless, feel compelled.

Tell us about yourself: Had a GSD, am getting a DS puppy in a few weeks. Compete in agility, obedience, and cross train in tons of stuff. Found out about this site from the DS Rescue yahoo list.

I hate doing nails, too. Use the grinder, but Geyser is a total pain about it. When she gets spayed, she's going to wake up with super short nails, that I hope to be able to maintain, now that we kind of have our routine down. Still can only take off tips, weekly.

Raven, are you sure that microwaving-to-melt-ice-off-feet isn't an urban legend? I can't believe anyone would be that freaking stupid!

Haven't known/heard of any recent attempts (other than sheer meanness), but when microwaves popularity in the home first began, yes...people were stupid. Yet, common sense and intelligence continue to decline, so....

I was clipping the tips of Thor's nails (after the vet wouldn't do it) and it was going well until I clipped too much on one. I couldn't just stop so he could have his way, so did a couple more then asked the husband to get out the Dremel. Still a PITA. He doesn't actually mind; it's the length of time that seems to be the bother. (And I couldn't agree with him more. Someone would have to pay ME to go get a manicure.)

ehm...only like a month ago, some stupid in France decided to punish his kid by washing his mouth out... So he did... kid died :(

Tell us about yourself: I am in New York State. Got my first DS about 14 years ago (more or less as a rescue- lost her in Nov.). After years of GSD's, and a few dogs of other breeds (Rotti/Beauceron/Ger. Shorthaired Pointer/ Yorkie and my current Jack Russell) I now have another DS, 4mo female, no name yet, tho I have a few in mind.
Also have a horse-old quarter horse mare-32.
Can't wait for all the snow to get gone! Spring is coming too slow this year!

Tell us about yourself: I'm a 22 year old part time student who recently got a dutch shepherd puppy who I would like to either do schutzhund with or possibly mondio ring with. He is about 5 months old and been so far trained purely using marker training without any corrections thus far. I am looking for some help with him as he is dog reactive when on leash, inside or in the car while driving.

I have the same problem with my boy tearing up his pads when we play fetch. It has gotten a lot better after trying a few different kinds of boots . Here is the link for the current ones that have worked well. http://www.ruffwear.com/Barkn-Boots-Pol ... ategory=11 I hope this helps.

Those look very intersting! I've used Ruff Wear boots for a long time, but haven't bought any in years, and the improvements are amazing.

They look like a bit of a PITA to put on, tho :mrgreen:
