Yup, its 7 weeks since we got Odin – wow, how time flies. He has settled in nicely. We can’t imagine our lives now without him.
I am really glad that for our first Dutch we got him. He is perfect for the “beginner” venturing into the Dutch shepherd world. When I read all those comments in the thread “Duchies not for everyone”, I have to say I was scared out of my mind! I almost cancelled Odin and I am so glad I didn’t. Yes, it could have turned out very differently and my husband and I would have dealt with it accordingly - meaning, we were committed no matter what.
He is glued to me all day and never gives me any problems. He is such a sweetie. However, when his papa comes home I no longer exist. :( My little fair weather friend!! I’m not complaining – just sayin. It’s actually nice to get a break.
So, that’s all for now - just wanted to share how much we love him. :D

I am so happy that you all are enjoying each other. How is he doing with the kitties?

I know what you mean, Xena is a momma's girl, but she has a real soft spot for her daddy. ;)

So glad it's going so well!

he is getting better with kitties - we walk him through the house with the gentle leader on so he can see them while we have control of his head. We don't make a big deal about it. Sometimes he ignores them and gets a "good boy/treat" and sometimes he lunges for them. He's had plenty of opportunities to eat one, but we think he's just curious. He even chased one down the hall and came nose to nose - nothing happened.
Of course, I was silently in panic mode   - did not want him to know i was having a heart attack.

I feel like I know that silent panic mode all too well!

It took me a little longer than 7 weeks to love my dutchy demon.

The work with the cats sounds great. Keep it up!

I'm so happy for you, your family, and Odin. They are awesome dogs and I'm glad everything is turning out so well :) If it helps the first few weeks that Merlin saw cats around the yard he would get really excited as well. He was outside one day eating and a cat jumped the fence and was walking toward Merlin and his food. He isn't food aggressive but I was curious about how he would act since it was this stray cat he had been trying to get to. He jumped on the cat, who is calico, she scratched him a few times and ran off. Point of this story is, Merlin and this almost brindle stray cat are best friends now. I think they believe they are related. He lets her eat with him, and I mean both their heads in the bowl together :o and when he lays down to enjoy the sun, she curls up with him and everything. In time maybe Odin will come to see your cats as just another family member and learn to enjoy their company too :)

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.
