Vet Check

had their vet check today, Sadie weighs 54.70 lbs and Thalie weighs 52 lbs. Im surprised Sadie weighs a bit more than Thalie, but I guess its because Sadie is taller. Just the usual shots and stuff. Thalie was fine, shes old hat at this stuff and the Tech had cookies! Sadie kept hiding in the corner then the tech had to just grab her and hold her, she got a few shots. No cookie would make Sadie like the vet. Then in the waiting room while I was paying, the vet came out and of course Thalie went right up to her looking for cookies, but Sadie stayed put and wouldnt go near her, Then the vet went a bit closer and Sadie started crying. Little miss toughie. The vet was really impressed with their teeth and asked If I brush them. Nope, just bones. The tech thought Thalie was 6years old, she was surprised when I told her she will be 10 in June.

What a coincidence. I was at the vet, also, but it was the two Belgians that were in for their annual exams.

Poor Sadie. My female, Ciana, was the same way. She's 6 years old, now, and today she enjoyed the attention as the vet looked in her eyes and ears, and at her teeth. Of course, she could smell the cookies in the corner of the room the minute she walked in.

I still remember her first vet visit when she did everything she could to get away from the doctor. I don't go to that doctor anymore.

I love my vets, they are really good and gentle. Sadie, as tough as she tries to be is a big chicken! She is passed out now.

Any chance you could visit the office often, no interaction from the vet/staff other than a cookie(maybe even just a treat from you), then leave---Nothing BAD happens.

I expected Diesel to be terrified at the vet, but he does really well...I guess he loves the smells of all the other pets. The first time he got pricked with a needle, he was eating a treat and had no reaction whatsoever!
He doesnt like waiting for the vet in the waiting room though, he usually whines if there are no other pets to sniff.

Poor Sadie...hopefully she will get used to it over time.

Thanks Barbara!!! In May , Thalie has to go back for some shots that she wasnt ready for, so Sadie will come for the ride and we can give her cookies and she can have a good experience.

must be vet week. Dakota goes tomorrow for some shots. She loooves it there and all the techs.

El is great at the vet, cause she's in all the time. But when she was a pup doing parvo treatments any needle made her squeal. Her pain threshold isn't very high. But way to go Thalie lookin' like a young thing!

Lisa, maybe for Sadie you could try Bach's Rescue Remedy, to help with her anxiety before visiting the vet.
Most health food/vitamin stores should have it.

We stop by the vet's office pretty much every other day for a cookie (it helps that the vet is around the corner from our house). Not sure if your vet's office is close by enough to allow for that with Sadie.

Zane went from loving it there (after his first two visits where he got spray cheese and nothing worse than eye drops happened) to being scared (after getting shots/bloodwork at his last visit), so we're trying to build him back up to feeling good about the vet. In the past couple of weeks, he's gone from freezing on the sidewalk outside of the office to sitting nicely in the waiting room eating cookies!

Now I just have to teach him to get on the scale (he'll get on other scales, but doesn't like the vet's scale because they don't have a mat over the metal platform). I had to pick up a 67 pound dog and get onto the scale with him in my arms the last time we were at the vet.

Ill look for that stuff Chris, thanks. The vet is right in town and I pass them every day and the girls usually go everywhere with me so its easy to stop by, great idea!!!

wow, There is no way I could pick up a 67 lb dog! Kudos to you!! Luckily my vet has them on the floor with nice matting. Sadie just walked on it and sat down.

I started using that on Dakota about 2 wks ago. She tends to have anxiety with certain things. Works really well - I love it. I use the spray in her mouth and put the drops in their water.
