Cough

Post by Diesel »

It seems both my dogs have kennel cough. Halo picked it up the other day (I suspect from the dog park) and two days later Diesel is coughing.
Any suggestions on how to deal with it? Unless it gets worse, I hope for them to ride it out and avoid a vet trip.

Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.

Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!

I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

It's supposed to be pretty self-limiting, in time. Glad you were able to find info about it...Hope they're all better soon!

Tell us about yourself: Hi.....my name is Angela. I have 2 daughters and 1 granddaughter. All of my dogs (and cats) are rescues. I have a puppy that we just adopted that I think could be at least part Dutch Shepherd. We also have a 2 year old pug/min pin mix and an 11 year old border collie and possible lab mix.

My min pin/pug mix came home from the shelter with kennel cough. My vet prescibed something to help. Thinking antibiotics......it was 2 years ago so I don't remember well. It ended up being a blessing in disguise for us. We found out that our old poodle had a heart condition so we started getting that under control.

You can also give them just plain honey. I've never used it for coughing but I do put it on my guys for cuts and battle wounds and they loooove to lick this stuff.

Yes :) honey is a very highly effective topical anti-bacterial. Manukah honey especially has very high heeling properties.
