Hey lady, planning a trip over to your neck of the woods first weekend in November as I am bringing a horse I've been boarding to a friend who moved to Quitman. And....you know I am timing it to go to Canton for First Monday. :wtg: Wont plan on bringing any of my stiped beasts but hoping I can catch up with you and maybe Elisa and meet your's. We've been online buddies a long time, would be nice to finally meet, eh? :g_wink:

So, what's First Monday in Canton?

We have a First Friday in C'Ville, which is the first Friday of the month, when all the galleries and shops stay open late on the downtown (pedestrian) mall, there's a free band at the pavillion, etc.

Is it something like that?

About 100 years ago, local farmers started to meet for their trading around the monthly court sessions that would take place on the first Monday of each month. Judge would come to town and the hangings  that followed did attract a crowd.
The hangings have since stopped  but the trade days, the weekend prior to the first Monday, are still taking place, a huge flea and crafts market of many pavilions. Including a dog town  where you cannot yet buy a DS but many other dog breeds are represented as well as your horse, your mule, your chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, pigs, you name it. The live animal section used to be pitiful, but good inspections have certainly cracked down on suffering, though I still think that puppies should have no place in such a setting. I go there, with some of my well vaccinated young dogs, to expose them to the immense crowds and strange critters and to be amazed by what people spend money on. :yernuts:

I'd love it for that same thing...the experience for your young dogs.

Thanks for the explanation!

It's nuts, with 6000 vendors on a couple of 100 acres. Drop on by when you're in the hood :)
