I'm doing this properly now, as Rorhin aka Rembrandt is sleeping and dreaming. He dreams a lot! And it's a bit scary because he is blinking his eyes right now, so they are just white! I've never seen a dog do that. He's an active dreamer but quite about it, just his breathing gets weird. I've told him we only have good dreams here, so hopefully he'll follow along with that.
I want to thank Trudy of North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue for considering me for adopting Rorhin. It was easy to figure that of course anyone helping so many dogs would be busy, but I really had no idea the amount of planning and discussing Trudy has to do for connecting a dog and person. Just my situation was overwhelming at times for me, and realizing that Trudy does this with each dog that goes through NADSR was quite a surprise. So I have to say thanks so much for all the love and effort Trudy puts into this work. I really don't think any words are adequate for truly expressing my gratitude. So simply put, with a most heartfelt expression, thank you so much Trudy.
This also includes "Mom Foster" and her family for fostering Rorhin which I'm sure included getting him out of that situation he was in before. For those who don't know:
"Rembrandt aka Remy, was saved by NADSR yesterday from a life of a chain and muzzle! Remy is a 8 month old male, neutered and vaccinated. He was chained because he chased the goats and muzzled because he barked to much! Geez poor guy, he is just a pup! Remy is social with people but is reserved at first. Loves other dogs and is now safe in foster and working on house manners and housebreaking."
Unfortunately Mom Foster had to work during the times we were able to pick Rorhin up and we were not able to meet in person. We did get to speak over the phone and emails, and I have to say she made a great temporary home for him. It was obvious he was having a good time there, and she told me that of the nearly 20 dogs she has fostered, this one was the one she had considered keeping in her family, only I believe the timing was not right yet. So I know, Mom Foster, that you love him and I want to thank you for giving me the chance to be someone special in his life as well.
Oh, now he's eating something in his dream! I bet it's yummy!
Because we could not meet Mom Foster due to our time schedules, another rescue oriented person and friend of Mom Foster's came to meet us. Despite closed freeways and traffic situations that made us all late, D. and her mother arrived shortly after us and was very informative, not to mention very nice! What great people they were! I was very pleased to learn that D. had known Rorhin from when he was a younger puppy and was able to give me some information about his history! I hadn't expected that and am very grateful for it. And D. was nice enough to understand that I needed a hug due to all the emotions! I get that way sometimes. I hope Mom Foster will pass along my gratitude to D. and her mother.
And then the people on my side of the planet. Troy and Debra thanks so much for your understanding and helping me coordinate the trip. Thanks to Jeannie for being willing to help as much as she can, and eternally thank you for your love and support and assistance during the dark times now past. Special thanks to Sasja for your love, counsel, wisdom and for letting me burn your ears with too much of all my nonsense. And thank you so much to Jody, Joy, and Justin, for your acceptance and making me feel like part of your family, for being my chauffeurs, for trusting me, for the extremely fun trip and for your time given - I forgive you for stealing my cheesecake.
Isn't it amazing that without all of these people helping me, and Rorhin, he and I would not be together now?
To all of you then, thank you so much. Choosing me to be a match for Rorhin and sharing your opinions and thoughts about us being good for each other are of great significance to me. I acknowledge with much appreciation the time, money, effort, love, and compassion you all have put forth to ensure happiness and joy for both Rorhin and myself. When I consider everything that you all have done so selflessly I am humbled and deeply moved. It is amazing to me that you have all been so wonderful. I still miss my first DS desperately. My hope was that this would pass when the vacancy was filled, but I find now that this isn't the case. However I am glad to say that it finally hurts so much less now that I have someone here to talk it over with who will give me keen ears and a reassuring wag. They are so very different. Mine was a runt I think, seeing now how he sizes up to another DS. And being together for three years we had a close connection, and communication was easy. He liked being with me and I was still thinking that it wouldn't be until he was older that he wouldn't be getting up and following me through the house every time I got up, that it was because he was still a young guy. Well, at ten months old, Rorhin is a gigantosaur, and the world is a playground and there is a nose that works on everything, so it's important to get to it!! Communication is getting better constantly, but for outside there's so much more stuff that is more exciting than me, so we'll be doing stuff with a leash for a while I expect. Of course this may all change in time, and I'm a patient person and won't be demanding that I be the only thing in his world.

I consider it an honor to give Rorhin a better, happy, loving second, third, fourth (depending on how you look at it) experience - to hopefully give him a more permanent home. I've always admired the position people who have done this for a dog are in, and I'm glad to know I get to do this too now.
Thanks to everyone. Rorhin will be happy here, and I'll do everything I can to keep him that way. No more chains, no more muzzles. Lots of love. Oh, and he's fine with the cats too. Oddly enough Bast the elder seems more comfortable around him than he did around the predecessor, and Sevin is keeping his distance instead. Hopefully they will play eventually. They may have started already when I'm not looking. Cats are sneaky like that. It snowed on Christmas day here. Rorhin and I played in the snow and I tried to take pictures, though cameras aren't as interesting to dogs it seems. Or perhaps it's that I'm a bad photographer! Certainly it has nothing to do with a subject that intuitively knows when to look away from the camera at just the right moment! It was really great for me though because it snowed last Christmas too, and I did the same thing with my friend now passed. It's nice to have Rorhin here.
