Tell us about yourself: Artist, Mother, Equestrienne, Educator, Homesteader wannabe, dog-lover. Not counting my current DS, I have had 2 GSDs and 3 rescued mixed-breeds. All of these dogs were rescues, except for my childhood GSD, who was a gift from my parents when I was 7, and my current DS who I bartered artwork for from the breeder. Maiyou, one of my current dogs, is a Pitbull/New Guinea Singing Dog of 13 years old. Still very active and "Young" in nature. I now also have a DS named Mokume, (pronounced "Moh-koo-meh") or "Moko" for short. Newest member of our pack is Freyja, a random mixed hound I rescued during a horseback trip in the middle of a state forest.

Happy New Year to All!

Post by feraloup »

I hope everyone has a great New Year's Eve and a fabulous start to 2013.

We're not going out or doing anything crazy this evening, just a quiet family night home, which after lots of craziness with family health stuff and whatnot and holiday madness is totally fine by me. :)

I can't think of a better way to have capped off the last day of the year, my son and I hung out at home and cleaned and prepped a space by the foot of his bed to put Moko's upgraded crate. He's outgrown the one he flew here in, and now that he's sleeping through the night with only an occasional crying to go out maybe once around 1am or not at all, we decided he can start to sleep in a bedroom rather than the kitchen. (Main door in and out of the house is in the kitchen, so less chance of accidents between crate and outside, and less dealing with underslept child!) Maiyou has run of my and Jon's room and my son wants Moko in his room, so that works. It's right next to my room, so I'll still be able to let him in and out and my kiddo sleeps like a rock once he's down, so the fact that I may go let Moko out once in the night shouldn't disturb him much.

We got the larger crate all cleaned out and set up with clean towels and a chew toy. (Have had it forever, but Maiyou hasn't needed it in yearrrrrssssss, and we've been using it to transport chickens to/from the fair and/or as an infirmery when we had an ailing hen. *lol* so it needed a little TLC to be pup-worthy once more.)

We got the pleasant surprise of Jon coming home at lunchtime, (he usually has to work 'til 5 or 5:30 but he got a half-day today due to the holiday.

My back has been way better, with lots of slow careful stretching, ice, and I've weaned myself off of the vicoden I was on for a couple of day and making do with ibuprofin. (Here's where my background as a competetive martial artist and fitness trainer came in handy, an intimate awareness of my own body and how far to push or NOT to push with regards to physical therapy and exercise/stretching program.)

Jon and my son and I spent several hours at the family farm, playing with our chickens and dogs and sledding and goofing about in the snow, then went to the horse barn where I board my horse and did evening chores there, feeding and bringing in, then had a family dinner, read books, and at the moment I have a child asleep in bed, puppy on my lap, hubby-to-be on the couch with Maiyou sprawled on his lap, and all is cozy, relaxed contentment.

I'm totally okay with this being my endnote to 2012. :)

Fireworks and parties have been had in past years and can be had in years to come, for now, I couldn't be much more content than I am at this very moment.

Tomorrow it will be more fun in the snow with fiancee and son and dogs, and then getting together with Maria and her dogs, and then I still have one last day off before school resumes on Thursday.

I look forward to being able to post some pictures I've taken over the break, once I can get to a computer again. I have a couple more "caught in the act" photos that aren't in the contest and plenty of good dogs-in-snow shots. One of my son and Moko up high on a plowed snow mound is really fun. Mokume is all legs and ears right now, so darn cute, he's doubled in size since we got him, yet doesn't weigh a whole lot more poundage-wise, it's all been length everywhere, he looks like he's been stretched like a rubber toy. *lol*

I hope the old year ends and the New one begins with all of you feeling as pleased and content and happy, (whatever that means for each of you in your own ways, however you are best wanting to be celebrating it, or not,) as I feel right now. :)

Many warm wishes and thanks!
