Facebook page.XANDER, one of the two DS pups [Xan born 3-24-12] that i picked up on my rescue trip to KY and IN - is now very healthy and well-adjusted. his adoption is soon, but i still dream that i might find the perfect home for this sweet, but very high-drive Dutchie on Long Island or near NYC so that he and his housemate Sakima could remain life-long friends. [ i have never seen 2 non-siblings so bonded - and so quickly! ]
he is very sweet, very friendly - even [ especially ] with children, well-behaved in knowing commands and not being destructive [ he has free run of house day and nite with or without me], but can be stubborn or even defiant when in his most exuberant, high-drive states. he is one of those super-drive DS that needs an experienced person so nothing goes terribly wrong for Xan or his household.
really needs to give and get lots of affection. has the BEST NOSE EVER - a natural-born tracker and detection dog. his one flaw, except an off button that sometimes malfunctions, is that he is often dog reactive; he is getting better, but still an issue - he needs a proper intro.

as a bonus - besides an incredible specimen of a DS, i offer life-time [ mine or Xander's ? ] free dog-sitting at my house for hours, days, or weeks as the need arises for Xander's permanent partner as long as Xan and Saki remain on good terms which i think they will in spades.

Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. Thank you, Christie ! i appreciate you mentioning it. they are like each other's shadow ALL the time - it is just extraordinary how they move together, jump in unison, eat from the same plate, sleep in the same chair, bed, or crate. a woman just meeting them today exclaimed after a few minutes, ''oh my, they are book-ends!''

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences. - Location: Victoria BC

thank you so much, Sue. yes, i think you are right and it is tearing me apart. i see it every day and i still cannot get my head around how close they are. it is really unbelievable. everything is done in unison - which is a good word for them.
i so wish i could find a home in the region for Xander, but it looks like it will not happen.
