Dutch spotted at local shelter!

Did you see a Dutch Shepherd somewhere? Out in public? On Television? In a movie?

Dutch spotted at local shelter!

Post by LutznAndi »

I just thought I'd drop this here because it was a very surprising spotting, to me.

This pretty boy showed up our small-town shelter about a month ago. Young male, the age estimate was 9 months old. The person who surrendered him gave the breed as purebred Dutch Shepherd, no registration was given though. I was in shock when I saw him in an update on the shelters Facebook page! I literally drove straight out to the shelter to meet him.

The handler at the shelter let him out into a run and he darted around sniffing. They hadn't worked with him any to see what his level of training was and when the handler ran him through some commands he aced them all. He has recall, sit, down, and stay (which we found out when she put him in a down and he stayed there til she released him from the down). He retrieves too. Awesome dog, just awesome, and very sweet.

I left with the paperwork to adopt this guy, but then at home I came back down to Earth (with a heavy heart) and I realized that another dog was just out of the question right now. Then two days passed and he was plucked up by a rescue, not sure which one (and it'd do me no good asking at the shelter about it, they are not very organized at all), so good for him!

*ETA if someone did want to try and track him down, I can provide the shelter info, we are in Northeast MO*

I'm just happy that he's found a home! :)
Fingers crossed that we'll meet the owner at some point on this forum. :)

Tell us about yourself: Greetings from Wisconsin. I live on a small goat farm with a crazy Malinois, named Rocket, that I adopted 5 years ago. I rent the goats out for weed and brush control and Rocket saves me hours a day, herding goats into barns and trailers and watching the gates as I move between pens. He also pulls a little red sled with whatever I need hauled. Rocket's the 14th dog I've adopted since I used to prowl the shelters for fast dogs for my sled team. One of my sled dogs may have been a DS mix. She had the look and energy but was a solid black with white toes. Rocket is currently an only dog so we go skijoring instead of sledding.

I'm looking for a DS to adopt. Young is good so I can introduce him to livestock. I'm in south central, wi. Email me if you can track him down.

Thanks,

There is another Dutch Shepherd at this shelter right now, a 1 year old female.

This dog is no longer at the shelter, I don't know yet if she was adopted or went to rescue.
