Found Another Dog Friendly Place!

I got my mom a gift certificate to a greenhouse for mother's day. When I picked up the gift certificate, I noticed a dog walking around with his owner, so I asked if dogs are allowed and they said they love dogs visiting. We went back today to spend the gift certificate and Odin came along. I love being out of the city and finding places like this.

Here's Odin helping at the checkout. They even gave him a little treat too for being a good boy.

He tried , but there were too many pretty flowers to smell, so he was off and on quite a bit.

the bigger concern is there is often a resident cat. but the concern then is usually for the dog's safety - those cats are jungle fighters! I've never had a greenhouse or nursery concerned about marking. my impression is that DSs are good for ''ambience.''

many of you probably know I always took Tracedog with me everywhere [ except supermarkets - resulting in me only going in a supermarket every few months for a couple mundane items ]. that led to many interesting adventures and encounters. I used to go to a huge bed,bath,beyond in downtown manhattan. I could drive or a strenuous walk. for years went with TD - to lavish compliments and praise!

one day - having stored up a to-buy list and having made the great effort to go and park in that busy area, a ''guard'' [ what? guarding deodorants? ] at the door rudely chased after me saying dogs were no longer allowed in the store unless they were small enough to fit in a shopping cart [ note: the conversation did not proceed to that conclusion nearly so rapidly and politely ], so I picked up my 72 pound DS and plopped him into a big grocery cart. both TD and the guard were equally dismayed, but TD gained new perspective on shopping and I completed my mission.

John, you always have the most interesting stories! I can just imagine you putting your dog in the cart and the guard's face.

That is so funny John ! As soon as i read you were turned away, I thought the same thing, just pick up the dog and put them in a cart !

I'm glad you had a guard that gave up on arguing with you. About 5 years ago a regulation started floating around some of the major security agencies that have commercial retail clients that stated "dogs that can fit in a carrier or handbag or similar device are to be considered an accessory and owners should not be approached without cause". You can thank Paris Hilton for this one. She made it popular to have an accessory Chihuahua.

I'm glad you can take Tracedog with you to most places. I'm not so lucky in my region. I did however used to live near a high end shopping center that would allow you to bring any dog through. While buying a lotion for my wife one day I turned and saw a Great Dane looking back at me. It was pretty awesome. My Rhodesian Ridgeback and DS came with me everyday after that. Even when I wasn't shopping I walked them around. It was great socialization.

yes, TD did a lot of ''window shopping''. he always seemed comfortable, but I presume all that helped him navigate absolutely any situation with ease and great judgment.
every Easter, he really did ''window shop''. any store with an Easter scene of cute animals - chicks, rabbits, etc - became an immediate target - rushing inside to share his excitement that the store was, at last, stocking what he wanted! I was always shocked that he would even pick up on these subtleties through glass, reflections - all while strolling down the street focused on other people and things.
