Very interested and have a couple questions

Hello, my name is Myron and I am new to this forum. I have been doing a lot of research on the Dutch Shepherd and have learned a considerable amount about the breed. However, I am having difficulty in locating any sort of organized registry of DS breeders. I have come across many breeders' websites who look to be actively involved with the DS but I have also found many that have outdated information on their site from years and years ago. Is there a UKC, FCI, or DSDCA listing of breeders? I live in Central Indiana and I am very interested in visiting some breeders that are within a reasonable driving distance. I have a 4 day weekend this weekend and would love to spend it experiencing some DSs live in person. From what I have seen on this site, it looks to be very friendly and helpful so I look forward to hearing from you soon. Any help, suggestions, links, feedback, etc. is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My interpretation of ''near'' may be very skewed by my unplanned and sudden excursion in a 25 hour period from the eastern tip of long island in NY to newburgh, IN to hunt for a missing dog. also, I do not really know the breeding community. however, clearly 2 of the very best/most respected DS breeders in the country are within semi-reasonable distance, tho unfortunately in opposite directions: www.CherCarKennels.net in MI ,
Christie Meyer's www.northwoodsk9.com and www.thunderhawkcanine.com in TN [ see her signature here on the forum ]. also, I rescued and fostered a dog from Liberty K9 in or around Louisville, KY who was extraordinarily smart even by DS standards, but I do not know Liberty's reputation -- just experience with the one dog that I loved who may or may not have had other pluses or minuses. my knowledge stops there, so someone with real knowledge will have to address the guts of your question.

Welcome to the forum! I answered your thread in the other section. I second what John wrote about Christie's dogs and CherCar's. I've met Cheryl and Carole from CherCar in person and see many of their dogs around at trials. I've never met Christie is person (someday I hope to and maybe own one of her pups), but I've met quite a few dogs from her breedings and have been very impressed. She's very knowledgeable about dogs in general and has done a lot for this breed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that got confused. I generally open 20+ tabs on the forum and just click through one at a time, read, sometimes answer, then close out. I had to flip back and forth to figure out if I had already answered.

In doing my research, I did come across the breeders referenced by john in ny. Several great websites for their kennels. Cher Car had tons and tons of information. Very helpful. It sounds like they are involved in just about everything DS related. Turns out they are only about 4 1/2 hrs away so I might just be giving them a call.

Again, thanks for the replies and forgive me for seeming ignorant on this topic but isn't there some regulatory body that breeders would be registered with? I only have experience with the AKC so I assumed there would be a similar version through the FCI or UKC so you could search for registered breeders. Not a big deal, but just curious at this point.
