Also has anyone experienced their Dutch performing something they haven't been trained for yet? Raven performed a perfectly executed (IMO LOL) bark & hold on a stranger (stranger to her I knew who it was, and had previously warned them about her) who walked into my house....unannounced! She held him at the door barking at his ahem unmentionables LOL until I called her off to which she dropped to a sitting position. I tell ya the sweat that was pouring off that man Afterwards he said to me "Would she really have bit me? My reply "If given the command? Yes....to protect me? Most certainly" Recently we had a stranger (a real one this time) my husband was not home so no car in the drive for all intents & purpose the house appeared to be empty....I guess this person thought no one was home and decided to take a tour of my property....needless to say he was met with all 60+ lbs of very angry Dutch Shepherd and one Westie pavement special and one angry mama with gardening shears! Yes I was going to trim his hedges! Turns out the person we purchased the house from a few months ago missed removing a "for sale ad" from a website and he was literally checking out the property I love my girls! Raven will be 2 in November, can't wait to see what the next few years will bring with her.

LOL! Exactly! She usually steals his crayons and begs for belly rubs. Most times she lays across the paper...or takes the paper and runs with it so he can chase her.

Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. with no training whatsoever, Tracedog was excellent at managing visitors, guests, invited and uninvited, passersby, etc. he took many different approaches, some astounding in their brilliance. they are amazing dogs!

hahaha, I think she was waiting for you to go away so she can eat the crayons.
I was coloring with my daughter one day, and we were done, so we put the books away, but the bucket, remember I said bucket................the bucket of crayons were left out. Later I went into the living room and the bucket was empty...........none.........nada............no crayons anywhere.......no wrappers either. For many days I was finding rainbow poop outside.
Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences.

Oh yes we also never found all of those crayons....She is absolutely crazy about my him! They do everything together. I even have him train her in basic obedience. They watch tv together and occasionally share the same snack...yes...together at the same time...from the same bowl and I have to remind him about germs and nasty doggie spit but really the only thing that worked was me saying "you know? She just finished licking her behind."
