Tell us about yourself: Artist, Mother, Equestrienne, Educator, Homesteader wannabe, dog-lover. Not counting my current DS, I have had 2 GSDs and 3 rescued mixed-breeds. All of these dogs were rescues, except for my childhood GSD, who was a gift from my parents when I was 7, and my current DS who I bartered artwork for from the breeder. Maiyou, one of my current dogs, is a Pitbull/New Guinea Singing Dog of 13 years old. Still very active and "Young" in nature. I now also have a DS named Mokume, (pronounced "Moh-koo-meh") or "Moko" for short. Newest member of our pack is Freyja, a random mixed hound I rescued during a horseback trip in the middle of a state forest.

So Moko and friends have been weathering our intense winter quite well. Old-lady Maiyou doesn't tolerate it for as long as she used to, but Moko and Freyja have been living it up! Those two are such lovebirds. Who knew the random mutt I saved from the woods would be such a perfect match for my insane DS? Maiyou alternates between being blissful that Moko has someone else to pester, and occasional jealousy that this younger female has muscled in on "her" pup.

The pulling work, with Moko's new freighting harness, is progressing, though not quite as quickly as I'd hoped, simply due to the fact that it has been SUCH glassy ice everywhere that I worry for his feet and my skull, should I end up off of my feet! So that means we haven't gotten out to practice as much as I thought we would when we had just snow. But he is coming along, I made a small wooden drag to start, and we've recently upgraded to a heavier tire to drag, and then I think we'll try pulling the kiddo on his sled, after we've been able to get back out with a tire some more. :) We've kept pulling sessions very short and fun and will gradually start going for longer distances after we have safe surfaces to resume practicing again. His first response to ever being hooked up to the drag was "What the HELL is that... OHMYGOD IT'S CHASING ME!!! GAH!!!!" But when he realized we were having fun and I let him run and he kept getting lots of treats, he now gets all excited and wiggly when he sees the harness and it's hard to get it on him. :)

We have also done lots of romps at Uncle Joe's farm to enjoy the gorgeous winter scenery. The ice storm made things treacherous but very beautiful.
