I'm a young man (26) with my second dog and first purebred Cora, a 14 month old lil girl. We live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I got into dutch shepherds through a long path. My first dog was a mix from an "accidental litter" between two neighbours, one a hunting lab/dutch shepherd mix and the other pure GSD. I was pretty naive when I got him and didn't realize the risks/costs of this type of breeding. Second year university decision that became life changing for the better in tons of ways. I raised him for 6 years, taking him with me to a variety of camp work and adventures. Tree planting and surveying in a few provinces, and camping travel all over the place. He's become a very stable, smart dog with a training level I am proud of. He has been a huge asset to have with me at work. The luck I got with him compared to most other dogs I met from similar situations jaded me against both the not so respectable method I got him and then adoption dogs. I wanted another dog I could both trust and depend on in all these challenging situations, but one who I could face additional challenges in training and bring to a level higher than I had with my first dog.
I recently bought a large piece of land and have settled in to have it for at least a while and be more prepared to raise and train a second dog, so I got my girl Cora as a second companion. She's very social, competitive, and I'd say a mid energy mid drive dog. A good size and while a hyper puppy, shows very good signs of growing up to be a stable balanced female dog. We have a couple challenge areas but many others she's very successful at. I look forward to learning more about training and getting her up to a level to compete in something. We currently use a large variety of games mixed with off lead hiking in lots of different terrain for exercise. She's outside and off lead 4+ hrs a day every day and has a free roam of my property. I do also do at least an hour of outdoor training and competitive play, 90% of days 2+ hrs, usually 20-30 mins of discipline training inside, and ~ 1hr off leash walking in the woods a day. I'm working on getting her more social time, but I live out in the country.
My two dogs have made an unreal pair, they play together and socialize very well, and my old boy Winston has been a huge aid in training Cora, both as guidance and correction. I've been reading around here a bunch today and look forward to learning more. It's nice to both see examples and hear from people with similar situations and challenges. I look forward to both learning and hopefully contributing some to this group!

- Tell us about yourself: 26 y/o man. Two dogs, dog first dutch shepherd. Got first when young, in college, 50% GSD 25% Dutch 25% Lab (hunting line). Brought with for forestry work from a young age and grown to very stable, strong dog and 6 y/o. He could tell some stories from the woods! He's a legend.
Second dog born 14months Female dutch. Med energy, high fetch(ball x10!!) drive, mid bite drive, low-mid prey drive. V. loyal, affectionate(!!!!), good with people except for overexcited jumping (work in progress). Can be v.good dog social but can go bitch mode unless introduced calm.
