Facebook page.Figured I should introduce myself here- My name is Jaz, midtwenties, raised with GSDs through childhood and converted to dobes as an adult. I have had two doberman so far, my current male teenager being my second dobe and my first working dog. I am disabled and he is my service dog first and foremost, but he is truly a working dog and loves nothing more than to be at club biting a decoy. We have attended two Ron Marshall workshops and have begun to train with a mondio club near DC that's full of dutch shepherds with the occasional GSD or mal. Due to some health setbacks on my end we weren't ready for our BH this year, but I'm hoping we'll get there this coming spring/summer and maybe if we're lucky we'll get a leg towards our MR1 too. High goals for a newbie in the sport but if you don't have goals you will never reach them! In general I will be happy even if the only titling we accomplish is an RN. He is my friend and partner first, I work him because I like working dogs not because I'm chasing any podium or fame.
Creed is 20.5 months and coming into himself nicely. He understands how to switch "jobs" well and very stable and calm in high stress situations, while not hesitating to bring his drive with him when we go to club or workshops. He is from a breeder who stresses the importance of the total doberman- looks and working ability and health all in one- and it helps that she produced the first CH/FR1 doberman in the US in 1990. His father has two IPO3s, his mother has her APr1, and his mother's brother has his IPO3. I've been told by a few mal friends who've interacted with him or seen him at training that he is very much like their dogs with a better off switch. I take it as a compliment considering how hard it can be to find a good doberman these days!
Since entering the working dog world with my first doberman, I've been fairly interested in the dutch shepherd breed but they're so rare where I grew up (small town S.Central PA) that I was never able to interact with them. Now that I train along side the breed my interest has renewed! So I am here first to learn about the breed and see if it's truly for me. I am in no hurry for a puppy considering I am just getting to trialling age with my youngster- the absolute earliest I would even think of adding someone is next fall/winter and only if I have a better grasp on what I think could be improved from Creed so that I have a better selection process to work with. Of course no dog is perfect and neither is any breed, I'm certainly not "done" with doberman by any means which is the other reason I want to see first what can be improved on vs what I have.
