Tell us about yourself: Active and owner of a GSD and Dutch shepherd (we think)

Hi chaps

Post by Tommo »

Hello people, I came across you site while looking to see if I have a cross or not, we got our 7 month ball of trouble on good Friday from a chap who was in the para's and keeping the dog in the block, so unfortunately he had to let her go, being a young soldier he lost all the paper work and again unfortunately poor little Meika had a broken back leg, (that really didn't both us) but the thing every time I see pictures of a Dutch shepherd they look a bit different, so I was hoping you guys might be able to help out,

Hi Tommo - welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you really rescued this guy.

Anyway, you can upload pictures to your posts. You will need to resize them first, but we'd really love to see pictures.

She's a lass but thank you for the compliments, she's great fun, full of beans and we can't find the off switch, I get up at 04:00 for the gym but Meika needs a 30 minute walk with a 10 minute throwing the ball session, she's awesome, the GSD is struggling to keep up, which is funny because I thought she had some get up and go, but at that time of the morning Sasha just kind of looks at you then rolls over..lazy bugger hahaha

Sorry about the gender mistake. SHE is beautiful.

I've asked a couple of times if members on this forum could draw me a diagram and instructions on the "off switch." - I am still waiting.

I had a Lab before this, and he was full of energy. My Lab seems like a Basset Hound compared to Radar's energy.

I remember with Sadie, the off switch just developed. As a pup, while I was working on the computer, she would fall asleep, but If I moved, even breathed enough for the chair to squeek, she would be up and ready. As she got older she realized I wasnt going anywhere and when she saw I was just going to the bathroom and coming back, she would stay. i would also tell her to stay. At 5.5 she still jumps up many times. It also depends on the drive as well. It will come but it may come in stages and if she has a very high drive, it may not fully develop.

Tell us about yourself: Over the past 25 years I shared my life with a Rott, two Akitas, and a Shepherd/Husky mix. I now have my first Dutch Shepherd. Lexi was born in early September 2014. She is great in so many different ways but I could use advice from some been there done that DS owners.

That is so funny ... if I moved or breathed for chair to squeak .... lexi is like that too. In fact, I've come to believe she doesn't go into a sleep if she is around me. She might close her eyes for a moment but very ready to come alert at a moments notice. Some times when we are driving home from an outing and she is tired, she will be laying in the back seat with her head and ears up but her eyes closed ... I'm still paying attention mom but just resting my eyes. ;)

Yeah that's what I'm loving, take a deep breath and there she is, bend down and tyour knees creak, and there she is, shes so affectionate with the family and an absolute ball to play with, I just wish we had these schutzhund training classes close by, to really get her going..
