:yernuts: killing time at work waiting on a subcontractor this morning, missing my pups. Decided to search dutch shepherd on YouTube, and this was the first one up.
...I don't know what to say.

Well, two if those were mine. I watched it a second time to make sure I heard correctly...
Don't get me wrong, I searched A LOT before settling my sights on the breed for my needs. But, that was just part of my investigation as a whole. I talked with a retired marine k9 handler at one point and he sang the praises of the Beauceron. I would have given them way more thought if I could find one in the U.S. He made them out to be a way better temperament for a family than the DS.
The video mentions AKC, no? Grumble-grumble, grumble. At least it's Friday.

In my experience, and what I hear from people I respect here, the Dutch Shepherd should NOT be portrayed as such a great family pet.

I believe the population of perfect family DS combined with the population of people who cannot handle the not-so-perfect DS will result in more dogs in the shelter, potential breed specific legislation, bite incidents, or worse.

That's all I really meant in my post. Okay, so which two? I'll have to go back and watch.

And yes. Happy Friday!

I totally agree. I hit the jackpot with Endeavor, being such a loving, affectionate companion with the rest of the family. I was expecting a dog that would need to be leashed to me at all times, and not trusted near my youngest kid. She's pretty mild, but still needs supervision with him.
The breed specific litigation was the first thing that hit me watching this. Some poor kid is gonna get...argh...I can't even write it... Just the shots of the kids hugging the dogs. I can't believe it.

Tell us about yourself: Over the past 25 years I shared my life with a Rott, two Akitas, and a Shepherd/Husky mix. I now have my first Dutch Shepherd. Lexi was born in early September 2014. She is great in so many different ways but I could use advice from some been there done that DS owners.

Wow, what a video. I mean their dogs all looked nice, calm, relaxed. Even played gentle. Only time lexi and Anna play gentle is when they are tired from running and playing for a while, then they slow down ... a little. Lexi is a good family dog now but for the first year she was not!!
