Tell us about yourself: My name is Karen and I have a dutch shepherd, Xander, born 6/14/13. He is my second dutch shepherd. My first was Rawly. Even though Xander is my second I still have a lot to learn. That is why I'm here, to learn, get advice, and meet people who love these guys as much as I do.

OMG recall greatness

Post by karenz »

So today Xander went to take the trash to the street with me... Off leash. He does this with me every week. So tonight we take off with the trash....

And the neighbors little tiny "prey" looking dog takes off from across the street as we start down the driveway. Xander takes off and I have a flash of bloody disasters in my mind. In a half way panic I yell "Xander"!!!!!

In amazement he stops. I yell" SIT". He is about 30 yards away. AND HE SITS!!!!!

The little doggie runs up about 15 feet from him. I'm paralyzed at this point. As the owner is running across the street to get the dog I yell "Xander Here"!!!.

OMG... He turns and runs to me.

Unbelievable, I'm so proud of him.... And me. I took him home, played ball and gave him a pig ear. I felt like I couldn't find enough rewards for him. This was 2 hours ago and I'm still giving him kisses.

Well I give him kisses all day anyway but he got some extras tonight.

congratulations !!!!!!!!!

Tim you will get there dont worry. I had thalie trained to lay down mid run. But I did ring sport and trained her for an hour a day because she had to learn a lot of things.

The best to watch was, I forget what it is called, but we send the dog to the decoy, and who ever could recall their dog at the closest to bite won. My trainer won , of course, his dog was open mouth, in air, and turned to recall. it was pretty awesome
