I have a few questions for fellow owners, as I have heard a few mixed things:
The food I am giving my DS pup is BilJac as per the breeder. I had never used this before, and I wonder how good the food is in comparison to others.
I have heard mixed things regarding the use of heartguard medication and the use of a flea tick prevention. The breeder recommended using diatomaceous earth (human grade obviously). Anyone have reviews of using it?
I just got back from Trooper's check up (4 month shots) and I don't think my vet has much experience with DS's. she said that at her frame she should be heavier and is currently underweight. She is 4 months old and weighs 21 lbs. I wonder if she is expecting her and other "shepherds" to be on the same page which they are not. Troopers parents weighed in at 58 (female) and 67 (male) respectively. I anticipate her to weigh around 62 lbs so I think she is doing well. Any recommentions? She is being feed 2xs a day at about 3/4 a cup each time. I just recently (2days ago) started to give her a cup each feeding
Pictures will follow soon

- Tell us about yourself: I am a brand new owner with relation to Dutch Shepherds. I currently have an female Akita (Nala) who is awesome. My desire to raise a dutch was driven from my background as a law enforcement officer and my interest in k9 protection/detection work. I will be picking up my female dutch on Thursday and look forward to contributing to the forums and utilizing them as a tool.

Re: Quick curiosity questions
I have never heard of that food, but I know there are a lot of good food comparison sites on the internet. We also have a couple of members who are adept at staying on top of this subject.
Your vet must have access to the information, and I would ask her to take into account the lighter frame of the DS versus GSD, though I question the wisdom of using breed standard for something like this. Activity and direct observation will go a long way towards proper nutrition. The other consideration would be to make sure the correct amount of protein and other nutrition elements are being provided.

Re: Quick curiosity questions
check out Dogfoodadvisor.com you can look up many foods to suit your needs and wallet . I use DE and Chia seeds for deworming. I have not used heartguard in years and they are always negative. Take what your vet says with a grain of salt. not many know anything about DS's. Mine had no idea what they were when first brought in THalie. My vet knows I know Know what I am talking about so she always lets me make the decisions. Both of my girls weigh 55lbs, Sadie is tall and slim and Thalie is bulkier.

Re: Quick curiosity questions
Is it grain-free? and my pup is the same weight she just turned four months and she is 25 pounds I thought it was because she is a female that they are smaller but she has been gaining like 2-3 pounds a week since I switched her to a grain free diet that was like 2 weeks ago she was like 18 llbs.
