Puppy mouthing

Post by Alyssarorvick »

Hi all! So as some of you may know I am a new dutchie owner and I have a demon puppy named tyson(: he has improved within the past few months and is now happy to come cuddle but as soon as I stop he will roll and have a fit, I do not tolerate this but he really does not give in. I hold my ground and if he doesn't relax he goes in the crate. I'm wondering what other dutchie owners think I should do, or if this is normal for a 6month old pup.

I didn't have En as a puppy, and it's been a decade since Aurora was a pup, so any advice I have should be taken in that light.
· Be careful with using the crate as a container for his energy. Bunch of reasons, but the biggest is that he'll be amped up and more likely to challenge the crate. Giving him any opportunity/reason to do that could start you both down a difficult path.
·He's a pup. You're NOT going to be able to stifle all that exuberance. If he's focused on you, and wants attention, redirect that energy into some obedience work or even simple "tricks".
· I think you'd do better by keeping him engaged with you when he's excited. You're going to build a better bond with him. He's going to get used to the idea that he has to work for your attention, not demand it.
·If he's just getting the zoomies, give him a chew and set him in place where he should sleep.

I hope all your dogs are well
