Hidden breeders

Post by kaitykaityy »

Hey guys! I've been snooping for quite some time and just joined up. I'm still a year or two away from a dutch, but after 7 years of debating and waiting.. we're going for it.

I have two GSDs, one ddr/czech female (amazing dog!) and a WGWL/DDR female. One is very laid back, the other is high drive and quick. Both now settle well in the house being 5 and 8 - it took a long time to get to that point!

I'm looking for a smaller breeder who maybe has one or two litters a year. Where pups are not raised entirely in outdoor kennel runs. I don't care if the dog is close to me, comes from the states, or is imported from any country. The breed isn't that popular and I don't really care if the breeder is 50 or 5000 miles away from me! That being said, I live a few hours away from Vancouver, B.C Canada.

Most dogs I'm finding are too extreme and would be too much to handle. I need a dog that can be social around other dogs (doesn't have to love them) have good, balanced drives on the medium side and is easier to handle. The dog will be competing in IPO, I do a bit of IPO for fun with my younger female and will continue to do so. A dog that is forgiving is important! I know these dogs are quick. I'd prefer a more confidant dog. Aside from IPO, I have a dog daycare and boarding business at home.. this pup will be out and about with me. It's so important to me to have a well structured dog. I don't plan on this dog being with me and never left alone - with GSDs it's always been hard to find a dog that can grow to be independent and not anxious. I guess I'm looking for a good middle in the breed, as I'm used to handling higher drives with malinios and gsds.. PMs are totally welcome here! I'm looking to learn a lot about what pedigrees produce what before I jump in. Hoping you guys can help tell me how it is and point me in the right direction 8-)

A confident Dutchie is also going to be a hard lines Dutchie and personally for me- I like the KNPV dogs, they will test you but they make great dogs. I'd just stick with DDR Shepherds if they work well for you honestly. I have three of these dogs, I don't think that anyone with a little effort couldn't handle them but everyone on here likes to act like their dogs are to tough or something- who knows. There is no middle ground per se' but then you might consider an FCI lines dog instead of a KNPV one.

DDRs don't work best for me - they're cool, but are not a huge challenge to me.. they're a little big, and health issues aside.. I'll always own a GSD but would love a different shepherd dog. I've worked with a lot of mals over the years and thought for a few years about getting one. I believe a Dutch is a great middle and speaking to so many people who have owned all three this breed was highly recommended.

I would prefer knpv lines.. Really the best way I can put it is looking for a dog with solid, solid nerves and a dog that isn't going to crack under pressure. There are a lot of nice GSD lines - but I already have two. Everybody starts with a new breed somewhere. I've always found the best dogs to be the most hush litters. I've seen a lot of people take two really great dogs, didn't matter much if they had gold stars in their pedigree, put the dogs together and they complimented perfectly and produced bomb proof, solid dogs. This is what I'm looking for, with a smaller breeder who is putting a lot of thought and effort into the breeding and not just going off of pedigrees.

Any breeder recommendations?

Depends on the dog you want and drives.
