Hope you all will play along with this...It could be interesting learning with some entertainment thrown in.
What's the dumbest training thing you've ever done--and what's the most brilliant training thing you've ever done? (Could be dumb because it wasn't thought through, or it was a brick-upside-the-head moment because of the temperment of the dog, or whatever. Could the most brilliant because--tee-hee-it was stumbled on by accident, or you reached a milestone by doing something that "everyone" said wouldn't work, or whatever....)

Dumbest vs. Most Brilliant
Though I can only hope to become the person who my animals believe I am, the things that they have taught me have made me a better human being. ~~~Sharon~~~

I'm not part of the Dutch family yet but I will share an experience anyway and I know how much I've enjoyed everyone's warm welcome and responses. My first mistake as a handler was that I bored my dog to death. I didn't change things up for the dog enough and I also was too slow when I worked him. It wasn't until I began training with some other officers that one of them opened my eyes. He said,"dang man I don't know about the dog but you are putting me too sleep. Then he took control of my dog and started talking crazily excited and was moving rapidly when asking the dog to search. The dog became very attentive and his search pattern was much better as was his drive. On the comical side of things my dog did embarrass me by peeing on a persons couch during a search of their home. Though I didn't find any drugs this time my dog gave his own judgement. Sixth sense I guess.

- Tell us about yourself: I have had a DS for almost a year. Gwen and I are considering participating in PSA and or possible Ring Sport. I also have a Great Dane. I have grown up around working GSDs and my last GSD was a working K9 officer. I am all about dogs and animals in general and want to learn as much as I can about training.

I don't know about comical but I feel so much better having heard this.. I thought the story would go to my grave with me but when Lonnie (GSD) would do building searches for explosives he always left not so little presents behind.(thank god he stopped)... ...

I was in the ring doing a Ring Sport trial, I sent Thalie to bite, and then it was recall time. She is always so good about coming right off the bite and to my side, Once they come off the bite, you cant move until you get the finish horn. Im waiting and waiting wondering why I havent gotten the finish horn, my friends behind me started to tell me that Thalie was behind me pooping ! I was so embarrassed.
