Before I even start my rant, I know...I know. I'm beating a dead horse. But really folks. Check this out:

ERMAGHERD, LEMME BITCH & WINE and still somehow keep my head buried in the sand. I hope the dog gets taken. I hope that for the dog that isn't EVER going to see an outlet for it's potential and more so for the next kid the dog goes after.
It's really not that difficult, is it??? I'm not smart. I've had dogs all my life and maybe I'm lucky enough to think like one and understand how to manage them. But I'm not smart... And smarter people than me should be able to grasp the basic concepts. There are too many concepts that are congruent through vastly different training methods for people to discount them.

I did the dog park for a little while with my Shiloh Shepherd, but after seeing multiple dog fights and owners completely melting down, after my dog contracting a virus, after people thinking it was cute the way the little dogs bit the big dogs, I quit.
I didn't even comment on the post. There were a bunch of comments about fur babies and lamentations of "why"... And then it was deleted. I hate to say it, but reading that this morning ruined my day. But nowhere near as that fur baby ruined that little girl's.
I hate stupid people and their offspring- so there's that. Screeching at eight years old while running around like an idiot? Train your kids to have some common sense and basic situational awareness.
Um. I don't know. I sounded more to me that the kids were, for some reason, playing at the park. Which means laughing and generally being loud. And frankly even a well behaved child is going to scream when a 40 to 60 pound strange dog comes running up to them. Added to which, as the TSA has discovered people in general are leery of certain dog body types. When I went out with a Dalmatian there literally be lines of kids waiting to pet. The first time I went out with Bramble I was shocked...not one kid approached to pet. Ironically both my Dals tolerated kids, where Bramble loves kids.
I believe the issue is a poor pet parent not training their "furbaby"....or in more direct terms the owner not recognizing the beloved pooch is a powerful animal, with an intense drive for either play or prey. The deflection to the actions of children was presented more to cover and excuse the guilt of the irresponsible owner.
I think in this case the owner should have trained his dog how to behave, and only then started training in different environments so that the dog would have the skills to judge situations in a form acceptable to humans. The dog should have been trained enough, and have built up enough exposure, to handle even randomly, inappropriately screaming kids.
Our trainer is always reminding me that Bramble is a powerful working animal and to treat her like one. This owner is very fortunate the children were not seriously hurt.
I'll add to the owner is fortunate the dog wasn't hurt. My child may well be the ill behaved child teen that randomly and inappropriately starts screaming and running. However any dog that approaches him in such a moment, no matter how tough the dog is, could be seriously hurt. Poor parenting aside, my kid has the right to be out in public. A dog does not, and must earn that privilege by being well behaved.
Sorry, as the parent of a wild child, and foster mom to 12 parenting judgements bring out my ranty side.
