im on the offa website and im just looking at differnt dogs' tests.

if in the hip area its says "mild" does that mean the dog has mild hip dysplasia??

or a mild chance of getting it?

It means the dog currently has Mild Hip Dysplasia.

There is Excellent. Good. Fair. All meaning that the dog is not dysplastic.
Obviously, fair is not as good as excellent. (duh...right?)
Then there are grades of dysplasia too. Mild means the dog is dysplastic, but not (yet) crippeled.
The recommendations are not to breed dogs with any form of dysplasia. (again, duh..)

There is also Pennhip as scoring system. Can be done earlier with a reliable outcome. Not yet widely available or affordable everywhere.

it makes me mad that people would breed dogs with bad hips! i was talking to someone who was dancing around my questions, and i found a spot to type in their kennel name and their dogs popped up and both had mild or the one lower than mild. and when i asked said "breeder" said " oh you had german shepherds right? its more of a gssd thing than a dutch. and just becuase you breed a dog w good hips doesnt mean you will get a puppy w good hips and vice versa." and i thought that was assinine.... like why do people bother trying to breed it out if it doesnt matter! like dont lie to me!!! ugh, i may not know a ton, but i know more than that! so i wash my hands of that "breeder", which i use lightly because theyre not what i thought they were... its sad!!!

There are those "breeders" and breeders. I was very lucky with the breeder of my black Labs. She did not only the hips but also the elbows. "all four ends need to be in alignment, like a car" she said. She also gave me a several pages thick "manual" how to not ruin good hips and keep them healthy: no driving on the pick-up load slipping and sliding around, no frisbee jumping up high and crashing down on the ground, no tile floors, etc. When one of my senior Labs passed last year and I contacted her to see if she has a dog available, she said she doesn't breed anymore since the economy is so bad and she is afraid of what might happen to her puppies later on. You don't find many responsible breeder like her.

ehm, maybe it would be interesting for all of us to know what the results in the USA would represent in europe.... in other words: Judith, can you list what would be HD-A HD-B ED 0/0 would be in the USA?

I saw the ratings in Germany taken from the worlds richest club: SV

For GSD they still use the terms "normal" for A-B (?!) and "Fast normal" for B-2 etc.
For all other dogs in Germany... they use the european terms...whaha.

Proud to say Ivil has HD-A1 (Excellent) Dingo was done in Holland and has HD-A without any number. But that still goes as Excellent or Good
