Horrible change in events.
Last night my poor Soba passed away. Someone (not in my family, or approved by me) gave him a rawhide stick that became lodge in his tummy. Because he was so young and surrounded by other dogs when he was given it, he swallowed it whole apparently. My husband noticed he wasn't acting right yesterday and called the vet. They said to hydrate him and see how it goes, he had just been wormed, so they thought it might have been a tummy ache due to the meds. I came home at 4 pm and held him for a little bit and within an hour he was dead. When I picked him up to get him ready to go to the vet, he just kept throwing up and his eyes were glazed over. This is heartbreaking and I really feel so lost. He was an amazing dog and I truely miss him. My son is not taking it well at all, only being 4 years old, its terrible for him to lose his puppy. If anyone has any ideas of DS rescues in Oklahoma or breeders it would be greatly appreciated.

OMG, this is heart breaking!! I can't even look at his cute little face without crying. This poor little innocent creature had such a rough beginning of his life. Thanks to you, he had at least a bit of happiness and love.

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences. - Location: Victoria BC

Thank you all,
the hardest part is thinking about how fast it happened. Just a day ago he was running around playing and I had just posted those pics of him looking so healthy
I will definately stick with the breed, but poor little Soba will never be replaced, I miss him terribly. I finally stopped crying last night and went to bed only to wake up to an empty crate and start crying again. He was such an amazing pup.

I am so very sorry for your loss. You are lucky to have had such a nice puppy to warm you up to the breed - and he was so lucky to have been in your home. My thoughts are with you and your family as you heal.kchristy wrote:Thank you all,the hardest part is thinking about how fast it happened. Re: Horrible change in events.
Thanks everyone, we are heart broken. My son has cried himself to sleep every night since it happened, begging me to bring his puppy back to life. I have to admit I have balled like a baby too the past few days, my husband even cried. It was just all so sudden. I even thought about looking into rescue, to try to get my son a new pup, but there aren't any rescues in Oklahoma, that I have been able to find. I have made contact with a breeder thats in Oklahoma, so hopefully I will be able to find a litter around feb or march. My poor little Soba will always be missed though, he was such a good pup.
Thanks again to all of you for helping me learn so much about the breed and being so thoughtful.

That is one of the saddest stories I've ever heard, and he was so incredibly cute. I am so sorry for your loss and heartache.
