- Tell us about yourself: My name is Todd McCarver and I live in central Alabama. We just bought our first Dutch for protection and she is 4mos old. We have high expectations for "Hope".
Funny, smart 6mo old!
Hope is our first DS. Just got back from trainer and is smart as a whip. I put her in a down in the house and her toy was across the room, she kept staring at it and I again told her down. She stayed down but stretched, rolled and moved close to it. I told her again down so she stayed down and belly crawled the last 2' to try and get it. I couldn't help but laugh. She is alot of fun and decided she doesnt like garbage cans or ironing boards. She is gonna be challenge!

- Tell us about yourself: I adopted a Dutch Shepherd mix (without knowing what she was) from the SPCA here in Victoria BC and am now trying to learn everything I can about this breed. My husband and I work from home most of the time so I thought it was time to get a puppy! We have his 2 boys here half the time and we wanted a nice family dog.
Sugar looks like a miniature Dutch Shepherd with floppy ears, and has every ounce of DS traits in her little body!
I hope to learn from other DS owners and share doggy experiences. - Location: Victoria BC

Cute! Sugar does the belly crawl too. It didn't take much to teach her to do it on command and I bet you could too. All the kids love watching that trick! (But do it on a carpet or grass)

but....
on the serious side, I never give my pup a command if I'm not in control. She already learned "down" means you get to do whatever you want as long as you look cute and stay low
Being so smart, they learn fast So practise without a toy first, or put a leash on, or... use a "loose" command. I have this for healing; "naast" (Dutch for "next to me") is the walking around hiking or whatever command, stick with me but okay to look around and sniff a bit. At the training field I use "voet" (foot in Dutch) for obedience-healing 
No looking away, no sniffing the ground, no nothing but stickin' to my leg 
but....
