Tell us about yourself: I am a wife, mother of 2 kids, 3 cats, 1 Standard Poodle (10 yrs) and Xena, a Dutch Shepherd Puppy.

Xena and the e-collar

Well, I did it. :? My little girl had to constantly be on a leash in our fenced yard so that she would not attack the free range chickens. I have 9 laying hens and they are pets. They run up for treats and petting and they all have names and PERSONALITY!

:dschick: Xena REALLY loves to pull their feathers out by the mouthful. I am very fortunate that she had not killed any of them. So in desperation, I borrowed my sister in law's e-collar.

Wow. That really worked and I only had to use it a few times on the low setting. :dsshock: The second day, she jumped up on the counter where I kept it and chewed the collar clasp off, so I couldn't put it back on her. (smarty pants :twisted: ) So I replaced it.

Well, in the week it took the new collar to get here Xena decided that the shock collar was way better than always being leashed in the yard. Now when she sees it, she comes running and waits for me to put it on! We only have it on when she and chickens are loose together. She has started to circle them and gently drive them a bit which is fine with me. She also lays down in the middle of them now and just watches them eat and squabble etc. She was so close yesterday, with them eating within a foot of her, that she actually shook with the self control it took not to pounce! But she did it!!!! No warning from me, no shock, no nothing. :dssmile:

I will probably never be able to trust her alone with the girls out, :player: but it sure is wonderful to be able to let her run and fetch and play in the yard again!

Ive heard people using them before and only having to actually use it 2 or 3 times before a dog really starts to get the idea. Xena is so smart, Im not suprised she catching on so fast :)

I do love the Ecollars ! The dogs do learn fast with them.

ehm, that is, if used correctly. I have seen many wrong ways to use it too :( When used correctly it can be a very dog-friendly training tool, when used falsely it can be real torture...

Like the guy following his dog onto the training grounds "o, did I turn it on? mmh, let me check"
*pushes button*
"EEWWW!"
"yup, it's on, ok let's start training"

Yes, of course I meant when used correctly. :doh: :D I was trained while doing Ring and only use the vibrate. I will NOT use it even on the low setting with Thalie.

Although Thalie used it on our Mal, She was chewing on the clicker while the MAL had the collar on, I was wondering why he was twitching so :whistle: :whistle:
