Not knowing what Dakota is, we did her DNA (lol) and it came back Airedale Terrier, Norwegian elkhound, Afgan hound and great dane. She is super smart (not as smart as a DS) and very sweet.

On Dakota, that would be Australian Cattle Dog. I have a female who has the same coloring. The ticking (spots) comes from Dalmation bred into the native Dingo X Welsh Collie. The farmers wanted a herding breed that was congenial with the stock horses. The white spot on the head is referred to the "Bentley Mark" after a Mr. Bentley who developed the ACD/ heeler breed. Just sayin'.

So looks like you will have two herding breeds now. Lots of fun. ENJOY!!

Not sure if that is a good thing to have 2 herding breeds in the family, LOL. It's funny, Dakota loves to chase her boy dogs in the dog park - like she's herding them, but does not like to be chased. I say "her boy" dogs, because she only likes males - very reactive to most females and wants to eliminated any and all fluffy female dogs, ie: border collies, golden ret, etc. We only go to the park on sat/sun at a certain time when her crowd is there, otherwise we do not go. Hate dog parks.

Very excited about Odin and Dakota will now have an older brother.

Wow - Dakota does look alot like Bindi. She is very nice looking.

Bindi and my older German Shep, both herd the grandkids (toddlers) which irritates the kids big time. They literally circle them to death, blocking them from moving forward. We've got four herding breeds here - GSD, Dutch, ACD and mini-Aussie. Herders keep you on your toes but are normally quite versatile and easy to train. Taking the ACD and Aussie to a sheep herding clinic on Thurs, in fact. Bindi already herds cattle, just needs some fine-tuning in her commands or actually it would be me that needs that! She and the Aussie are here for farm work.

it is fun having multiples of herders, Sadie and Thalie, herd everything, kids, each other, me, the basset.

Odin will have to be quiet for several more weeks until he gets clearance from the vet. He is in his last leg of recovering from heartworm and even if vet says ok for activity, I will introduce it slowly back into his life. My girl loves to play, so it is going to be hard for both of them for a while.

Carole - I checked out your website and I have to say your dogs are gorgeous - all three of them. You must be very proud. I like that they are all different looking. How do you manage them all? ?

You talking to me? Thank you, I love all three of them. And a beer now and again helps.

As for managing, well, my house is one crazy place. They all compete for my attention and at reading my mind, because they all want to be first in line for anything I do, including taking a shower. Hahaha!

Thankfully, they all have enough training to pay attention and do what I say. Boaz is at the age where he wants to take over Balto's No. 1 position. So, Boaz stays in the kitchen while I'm at work, with a nice comfy bed in his crate. The other two dogs sleep on the sofa all day.

Now, what I really was going to post is that Odin looks like one happy boy! I can't believe he's as old as they say, he looks like he's ready for anything! I'll bet you can't wait for him to arrive. I'd be nervous as heck with the waiting.

yes, Carole I was talking to you . and yes, my husband and I (and Dakota) are very anxious for his arrival.
I don't think the kitties are going to be happy, but they will adjust.
