Good for you!
Did you file a complaint with animal control also? In case this dog goes after another one, it helps the next person if there is a legal paper trail and AC should be aware of this.

No I didn't. I had to go back to work asap, it happened during my lunch hour.
They only have three units for the whole county. When my senior Lab got attacked AND bitten by a free running pit, I called the police and AC&C. It took them over 1 1/2 hours to show up and take the report. The police took 15 minutes!
When I called before to report other incidences, other than an actual attack, i.e. running loose, being tied up outside without water, etc. , it takes them about 2-3 weeks to respond. If you really want to get some results, you need to file an affidavit with a second person and have both notarized. Then a court date will be set. The owner most likely does not show up, gets fined, bla bla. Already went through all of this several years ago.
They really only have time for the "hard core" cases like animal hoarding, dog fighting, etc. They are underfunded and consequently understaffed. I really feel sorry for the officers. They would like to do more, BUT. They even put in their own time to provide for free obedience training for adoptees. Marco and I participated. Really nice people, they do their job for the animals, not the money.
But, I saw the tenants today carrying out stuff and loading the SUV. May be they are moving. I sent a pretty cut and dry email to the property manager and district manager. It might have helped and I don't have to make a rush move. The properties I found allowing two big dogs were the pits and no real improvement.

Well, the thing is, if a place allows pets, you may just run into the same thing with a different dog.
Hope it all works out for you! They should be the ones to move.

How crazy and then the nerve to complain about you! My husband is a police officer and just recently did a report where a guy was walking down the street with his children and a dog on a leash. While walking, a pit came from out of no where and lunged at their dog. He got the dogs seperated, while the owner sat from their house and watched the dog and did nothing. SOOOO when the dog followed the man and his children all the way back to their home, he proceeded to go inside and come back out with a pistol! You can only guess what happened next!!

The owners of the dog that attacked you are lucky all they had to deal with is pepperspray!

So, question now, what DOES work on a dog as a distant deterrant. Hubby has a LE taser. Hummmm.....?

Seriously though, ideas? What works?
I usually carry my herding stick when walking through the woods but in our neighborhood dont have to worry as there is a strict leash law and most of the dogs are harmless.
