Acquired a Dutch Shepherd from a weird situation...

I'm in the same situation, and looking for places to take my 6 month old miss grumpy pants. I feel kind of bad taking her in public when she grumbles at everyone and their little dog too. I take her to the vet once a week, the training place twice a week, both just to hang out and get treats when she tolerates someone. She also walks an hour a day around traffic and bicycles, which she is warming up to. It all seems to be moving slow. any suggestions for other dog friendly places to take her?

yes to everything. no matter the background of this pup, as a DS, he will exceed any expectations you could have ever harbored for a dog. i fostered a DS for 3 1/2 weeks in aug that had basically no socialization except a litter-mate for 7 years; then he had even that ripped away from him. he adapted so fast and by adoption time, it was as if he had lived with me all his life and he was clearly on his way to being a normal DS out in the broader world. http://www.youtube.com/caindoginny
indifferent to others i would call a breed characteristic; other than his ONE human and a core 'family' of people with whom mutual respect is possible. he will likely always be observing all around him and will make choices and judgements [ about people, etc] that may surprise you how good they are. fantastic that you took on this puppy. lucky puppy, but i have little doubt from what you have said that in the end you may consider yourself equally lucky. so, thank you for what you are doing!
