Kuranda Crate Bed Question

I can add one more onto the "do not buy" crate list. RoughMaxx or RoughMax. Biggest POS I've ever seen and owned. Vari-kennel seems to be the favorite.

I hope I am not too late to chime in.

I am a Kuranda fan completely. We have them for all of our dogs, working kennel dogs to fragile senior pets. They make some that are sized for crates and have shorter legs so as not to take up too much room. I have had some dogs try to check the corners, but have NEVER had a dog get anything that could do any harm. The edges of the fabric are hidden within the PCV or aluminum, so there is no way for them to wrip it apart unless they dig through and create and edge. Even that takes a considerable about of time and you will see it happening before the dog is successful. You can even buy 2 pieces of fabric (or balistic whatever) so you can switch out if you see a weakness. They are only like 18$.

We breed raise and train dogs for police work. They have access to a Kuranda in their kennels from puppyhood to adult. Having raised many dogs this way, and having many fosters, again I have NEVER had a dog hurt itself or get a piece off of the Kuranda beds. We have all PCV and have never purchased the aluminum ones. Obviously, I would suggest leaving a tempting chewing alternative (stuff frozen Kong), but I don't think you have anything to worry about. A few I have had for 10 years. I may replace the corners here and there, or the legs. But only because they get dented when chewed - not because the dogs get anything off of them.

Thanks for the info!!! After talking to Colin at Kuranda, I ordered and received the aluminum XL with "smoke" ballistic nylon. WOW...that tubular aluminum is heavy grade! He(Colin) had said they sell alot to K9 units etc and that the aluminum was the most indestructible although he thought the plastic would be OK. Being the "worrier" I forked over the other 40 dollars and got the Aluminum. I can not stress how well made these are and it is WORTH EVERY PENNY of the 133 bucks shipped for the build quality.

Oh...I hope you are doing very well; I never know, with all the training and Rescue work you do-where you are but know you are doing fantastic things for the Dutch Shepherd breed

When I think about the amount I have spent on fabric beds over the years - because I always think "Well aybe NOW they are old enough to have one...." - $133 is nothing for a bed that will last longer than a lifespan!
