Tell us about yourself: After putting down our wonderful Black Lab in 2011, we adopted Izzie, a "shepherd mix" from the San Francisco SPCA. I swore we wouldn't get a puppy, or "needy dog" since my wife and I both work. After seeing two dogs that didn't pan out one day at the SPCA, we looked at one last dog...she was 4 months old and came right up to us with the sweetest look and demeanor, we had to overlook her age. Little did we know she was such an active breed, so add that to her puppiness in work we weren't looking to take on. Well, it's been 14 months, but well worth it! Izzie is a great, energetic, affectionate companion, who I take to work every day (I work alone). Smart and stubborn, constantly counter surfin' if you leave anything out (like a half a dozen doughnuts).

I was a bit worried - a dog that stops jumping - and on a bed no less! just watch for other tiny signals. these are DSs and a tiny signal is all you may ever get of anything gone wrong - even of big trouble. so a sign could mean something minor that passes or something major. aside from the injury issues that are possible, in my experience, not wanting to jump ONTO things [ where hind legs follow after the front ] - as opposed to lifting front legs high onto something [ which we humans also call jumping when it is really standing up] - has more often than not signaled internal discomfort of some sort - from what we would call indigestion to more serious matters like intestinal infection, pancreatitis, and hematomas [ which could also have come from a physical injury]. so I agree with Lisa that Izzie is telling you something but what that is is the question. just do not assume that the only answer is something concerning muscle, joints, tendons, etc.; it could just as well be something wrong in the abdomen which is already where Izzie has had problems.
All of her other active behavior so far is normal...stairs, roughhousing with a 4 month old puppy yesterday, her poops look normal, she eats fine. May be one of those things that will either fade away, or get worse and become more obvious. I think if it continues like it is without getting better, we'll taker her in. Maybe the vet will manipulate or poke something that'll point to the cause. A visit to the vet is expensive, and we spent almost $1000 on tests a couple months ago when she had the last extended bout of diarrhea, so we'll give this just a little more time and see. No ball for a week may make a difference

Tell us about yourself: DS and Mal foster newly approved aug'12 by NADSR and ABMCR. high-functioning Autistic in nyc/hamptons in my 60's. Rescued the smartest dog i had ever seen off nyc street in 2000. Tracedog's intelligence exceeded by multiples my judgement that day. My first [and only as of 10/2012] dog turned out to be a DS, perhaps with a touch of something else, but attention to detail, behavioral traits, and physical habits, movement, and skill identical to DS. But MUCH more intellectual ability. supremely confident in all settings, fearless, very outgoing and social with people and friendly with dogs. Seldom apart in over 12 years, Trace Dog was the most important relationship of my adult life; he was my partner. He died july17,2012. i am dying without him. www.youtube.com/tracesobaka www.dogster.com/dogs/637612

Time is always good. Have normal play and let her play with the other dogs and pups and see what happens. I dont limit Sadies play, but I do limit our hikes and slowly build them up as she gets into shape. Muscle tone will always help if she does have some hip problems brewing in there. Sadies ouches were very intermittent but her build was a big give away as well, very long and straight in the hip. Keep an eye on her and see what happens.
