Meeting DS :)

Post by Violet »

So the foray into meeting Dutch shepherds has begun.

Last week my partner Ruud was lucky enough to be invited to Jan and Anja's at Van Inlands Akker in Heerlen. It's pretty close to where my partner lives and he got to meet puppies! Their RH Suske had just a week prior, given birth to 6 healthy RH pups ( P nest). This is the first time he's got to meet DS in person, and I enjoyed having all the details relayed to me seeing as I could not participate also.. which makes me sad :(

Anyway, Jan was kind enough to take some photo's on my partner's phone to share with me and I thought I'd give you folks some pictures to enjoy (72 in total, he got snap happy ). Hopefully there will be more meetings like this in the future. There were two adult RH's and three adult LH's to enjoy. My partner said the RH were very laid back and seemed to take everything in their stride, the LH's however were very curious and active about meeting this strange person in their house.

You won't get 72 pictures, but I selected what I think are the best ones to share with you

So of course I want to say a big thanks to Jan and Anja at Van Inlands Akker for being so kind as to actually go and collect my partner so he could meet their dogs. They have been brilliant regarding advice and I appreciate them taking these photos especially for me seeing as I couldn't be there 8-)

Nice pictures. Too bad that you missed out.

They are so cute~ Did he prefer the Rough haired or the Long Haired personalities?

Lauren, my partner likes lots of things, he can appreciate the quite mellow temper of the RH and the active inquisitivness of the long hair. He liked them both for different reasons. We are hoping to get a short hair eventually as we would like to compete and from what we've heard the short hair is the most drivey and likely to win at competitions ompared to the RH and LH. But this is why we're trying to meet as many as possible so we can decide for ourselves what we think is going to be the best option. Either way all types of DS seem pretty versatile and obviously there is alot of difference between individuals in litters anyway so once we've met few more I'm sure we'll be able to decide a bit better which coat type to go for.

I just hope that I can at least get to meet a few dogs next year before we go on a waiting list for a pup. As much as I trust my partners judgement, I like to meet dogs for myself so this is enjoyable and frustrating at the same time lol

Tell us about yourself: I like Dutch Shepherddogs, especially the roughcoat. At the moment we have three dogs, two DS (one female who is 10 years and one male who is six months) and one male Laekenois at the age of three. We live in the north of The Netherlands.

Nice pictures, especially those from RH Suske and pups, to bad you couldn't be there yourself. I can recommend the rough coat as they are great dogs both in character as in working drive. And they are getting rare sadly enough. I know a breeder who will most likely have a litter somewhere next year.
